good allrounder amp to go well with ibanez rgt42

hi. i have an ibanez rgt42. got it when i was into metal but now im real into blues. i still love the ibanez but it doesnt sound bluesy enough. im lookng for a decent amp,€400 - €500 range, that will give me good all round sounds. a versatile amp. good for blues, metal, heavy rock, acoustic..... any recommendations??

Re: good allrounder amp to go well with ibanez rgt42

i run my rgt42 w/EMGs through a marshall mg100, and i can dial in so prety good blues tones and some more 'modern' sounding jazz tones, its not the best amp but you gotta know how to dial things in to get any given sound, just spend an epic amount of time in shops trying amps, but make sure you bring your guitar! but id give line 6 amps a go first, they do some fantastic sounding and very versitile amps.

hope that helped

In that price range, I would go for a Line 6 amp like a Spider II 212 or maybe a half stack if you want to play loud or with a band. My band plays mostly metal and hard rock type stuff which the amp does very well for the cost of the amp but I use a lot of the other sounds in my own personal practice. The amp definitely has some good blues sounds and the clean tones are what caught my attention to the amp in the first place.

What kind of AMP and effects are you using with the RGT42? The SPIDER that was mentioned is one way to go. Another way is to get an amp that has a nice BIG clean tone and outboard all your effects for whatever style you are playing.

Well, the advantage of the Spider II is that you don't have to worry about external effects because it's all built right into the amp. But if you're an external effects person (as in you already have a bunch of them) then the Spider II is probably not for you because it doesn't work very well with other external things. It's pretty much a plug and play type of amp where you can dial in all sorts of tones straight from the amp.

is there a pedal with the line 6 spider, or can you get a pedal to allow you to change effects withough having to stop, bend down to the amp and doing it manually??

I didn't think the Peavey XXX was bad at all! It appears they are discontinuing the XXX in a 2x12 combo, so the 2x12 combos have came down in price (clearance, I guess).

There are several pedals that you can get to go with the Spider II's as well as the other Line 6 amps and each has varying levels of control. If you get the standard FBV4 then you can switch between the 4 user programmable channels (which is what I do). If you get the FBV Express then you can also switch between the 4 channels but with bigger buttons, plus it has a built in chromatic tuner and a volume/wah pedal. If you then upgrade to the FBV Shortboard then you can switch between like 32 channels and I think you have the ability to turn effects on and off from the board itself. The ladder would give you the most amount of control over your amp but it's also kinda pricy in comparison with the amps themselves (but then it also works with all the other Line 6 amps so if you ever wanted to upgrade from say a Spider II to an HD147 then you could use the same foot controller).
