Good Amps for $500-700

I'm not to picky about amps but whats a good amp thats around the prices I put.

Ive looked at..

V33 212 Combo 33 Watt, Class A

and some other epiphone tube amps. If anyone knows of any GOOD digital amps or alright tube amps. let me know. I really don't think. Right now I have $1,000 in my bank but I need to buy a car (otherwise I woulda blew it on an Rg1270 ) So I'm looking for a good amp for next year when Im back at work.

Peavey Classic 30...I love mine, and IMHO, it's the best amp for the money. Beats any modelling or digital amps by a long shot...Try out a bunch of amps first though before you spend the money. What is a V33 by the way? You didn't specify a brand...

Carvin SX200 (100W 2x12 combo). Very very nice amp (solid state), great sound, very versatile. Nice price (under $400).

Orange Tiny Terror... 7W/15W of Class A power; Ya can find 'em used for around $500, maybe less. Adding a new matching 1x12 will still be within your budget... a 2x12 will cost ya a little bit over however.

I use a Crate V30h and 2X12 cab as a practice amp, and it actually sounds pretty damn good. I was looking for something on Musicians Friend, and they are having a mental sale on the crate amps, I'd seriously look at that.

Seem to be wildly popular with younger players, for some reason...I found it to be a cold, sterile sounding amp...

Really? I was considering one of these as my next amp. What'd you find to be so bad?

I went through three of them all with the same problems. Noise/hum with reverb tank hooked up, frying egg sound sometimes, noise in general, and while great customer service from Sam Ash got ****ty service from Peavey. Nice warm sound but ****ty distortion.

I unhooked the reverb tank and put my GT-6 straight into the effects return. That stuff helped alot. I don't gig so I can deal with any random noises. Once or twice LOUD vibration type noise. It is not a very good amp all in all. I would get rid of it but I am not gonna saddle someone else with this amp.

Hmmm, I'll remember to stay away then. Thanks for the heads up.

I'll probably end up getting a Peavey 6560 head and putting it on some nice 2x12 cab

Caveat emptor: NEVER buy an amp or avoid another one based on somebody else's opinion. One man's trash is another's treasure as they say. Try out these amps before you make a purchase. Always amazes me how people will spend hundreds, even thousands on a guitar or amp without even trying it out first...and then they are shocked to discover that when they actually play with their new purchase, that it's not at all what they wanted at all.

Re: Good Amps for $500-700

Just another random thought here; the clean sounds are often the most important that your amp produces. You can buy thousands of distortion/overdrive/fuzz type pedals and racks to get a degree of dirt you're happy with, but there aren't any "clean" pedals.
Just something to keep in mind if you will be using the clean at all

(And Carvin does make a great sounding, reliable amp that is often reasonable used.)

I just missed out on a 1972 Verlage VTR-100 head and a 1 X 18 Verlage cabinet for $600. This amp was built in my home town, and apparently they were built like tanks and had insane output. I would have loved to get my hands on one to give it a whirl.

behringer A500 + Pod X3 + Cabinet = Cheap, high quality amp sound with a degree of versatility thats pretty much unbeatable.

I know that NickCormier uses this setup, try asking him, if he's still around.
