Good guitar tone


i have a gig in two days heres the gear ill be using:
ibanez rg 1527 (with stock pickups)
yamaha dg stomp
marshall mg 30(30 watt tranny amp)

now i was wondering if i shud use the dg stomp thru the marshall and mike the marshall up.OR should i just use the dg stomp straight in to the P.A.Really confused ,we'l be doing some heavy stuff like metallica,inflames,killswitch engage.Any advice?

1) Consult your English teacher, ask her about spelling.

1.) Try both.
2.) compare results through the monitors, not from the stage.
3.) Do whatever sounds best for the crowd.
4.) See Mr. Orange's #1.

I know this sounds like sort of a cop-out, but I think you chould go with what you're most comfortable with. It doesn't seem like you have a real good grip on what your gear can do for you live, so I think you should go with what you currently use in band practice... if that's the Stomp through the Marshall, and you're happy with that tone, then go for it. Later, try to get a chance to plug the Stomp direct-in to a board to hear what that will sound like and play with the speaker emulation settings... I know Guitar Center always has some mixers set up in their PA room, so maybe you can talk them into giving you some demo time?

If you have the mic'ing facility and a decent mike, you will always get a more live and realistic tone IMO. I've never liked the sound of DI'ing anything it sounds even more wretchidly digital (I have the MGDFX 50).

Use a shure SM57
