Greenbacks Vs Whatever they got now? - Has the Legacy improv

has anyone had a chance to compare the new speakers used by carvin in the current line of legacy cabs with the old??

plus scince I cant demo them anywhere without gettin on an airplane I would appreciate everyones opinion good, bad or indifferent?

(If you wanna say its F***ing useless I want to hear that too)

Im giving some serious thought to getting one

I have a Legacy that i got about a year ago, and i love it  ... i haven't heard anything Carvin chaning the speakers in the cabs though. *There's a Carvin store near me, so I'll try to go and check them out sometime soon.

yes I believe they changed them from greenbacks to clestion 30's. Since I don't own one I don't know the difference in sound. I believe I read somewhere in another post the greenbacks were being blown too much or something, and the clestions don't have as big of a mid range spike.

I prefer the Vintage 30's to the Greenbacks anyway (both Celestions btw).

carvin changed from greenbacks to vintage 30s(actually they arent 30 watts) awhile back

its not because of blowing speakers, most people mistakingly think that a 25 watt speaker has a tendency to blow because of its lower rated wattage.....which really isnt the case at all.....steve switched because of sound of the speakers....many people prefere the vintage 30s....personally, i like my greenbacks, they have a nice tone to them.....im still waiting to check out the g12h-30 speakers...heard great things about them...they are a true 30 watt speaker

hmmmm that amp is good for everything! *I use it for playing 'tallica stuff, Vai (of course), Megadeth, Dream Theater , its pretty dang versital. the distortion channel just cuts through everything and really stands out, its not muddy, it stays crystal clear and crisp through the whole mix. *i love my Legacy

Greenbacks Vs Whatever they got now?

i bought my cab during the changover, so i just ordered one with greenbacks and one with vintage 30's and a/b'd them for a week. *the results are: *the greenback was much more natural sounding and seemed to have a more even eq curve; *the vintage 30 was really nasal sounding and was way too midrange heavy for my taste. *to my knowledge, vai still uses the greenbacks, it was carvin that changed to the vintage 30's because they said they "experienced better performance from the vintage 30's". *i read an interview with vai that said he went through sooooo many speakers in the process of choosing what to use for the legacy cabs, which included vintage 30's, and he decided on the greenbacks. *i dont think he was just up and change his mind to the vintage 30's one day just because the mood hit him. *i mean, it all boils down to personal taste, but the vintage 30's sounded very unnatural to me and took too much eq work to even get them tolerable, whereas the greenbacks just did it naturally. *my $0.02

I was hoping that they would be very similar sounding,
I can only get the Vintage 30's from the UK supplier they sold all the greenback ones already.

hmmmmm curse them,

Ill have to buy a set of greenbacks then,

no you cant, I think they sold the last six they had for sale on their website, but you can buy greenbacks from celestion and fit them yourself, very easy mod to make.
