GT-6 as preamp??

hi everyone, i'm thinking of setting up my very first rig. need some opinion on this. i currently own a boss GT6 and a peavey classic 50/50 poweramp. is there anyway i can use the GT-6's preamp as my main preamp and use the peavey classic 50/50 to power it up? or do i need to get another preamp? i was thinking of using the GT-6 because there's a handful of effects that i can use with it and it can be handy when comes to live performances as well. also, will i need a power conditioner for the rig or i can leave that out? thanks guys for the comment!!

That's my exact setup.

GT6 BBE Sonic Maximizer Peavey Classic 50/50 Genz Benz G-Flex 212

You don't *need* a power conditioner in your rack, but it does help a bit if you play small clubs that often have dirty power. I use a NuMark one in my rack... pretty much the same specs as the Furman PL-Plus, but a few bucks cheaper.

The Sonic Maximizer is also optional, but i find that in small amounts, it helps give the GT-6 a bit more of a "3D" sound without sounding too processed.

Overall, i'm very pleased with the setup. It's very loud and very clean, and when i'm not playing, it's eerily silent.

Well that will be my setup by the end of the month.

GT-6 into Peavey 60/60 into 2 2X12 cabs

I love the GT series. I used a GT-3 before and loved that too but the GT-6 is just awesome and much of an improvement.

The GT-6 works beautifully for recording.

Just run it in mono or stereo from the 1/4" outputs and set the Output Select to the appropriate setting. If you have digital audio I/O on your computer, you can run the S/PDIF (digital coaxial) output from the GT-6 directly into that.

You don't need a mixer.

Hi jwai! Ok. So cabs and preamps. This is my opinion-

For cabs, yes I believe the Genz Benz and Rectos are the best. Marshalls are great of course, but those are my top 2.
The cabs Im actually in the process of ordering are Avatar cabs. You can find them at Avatarspeakers.com, they are decently cheap, but they are built well and use great speakers. I feel these fit my needs because Im still very young, and dont want to spend to much on cabs that might get really beat up.
If you want unbelieveable low end girth, check out the Genz Benz, it will deliver.

For preamps, I never got into the POD thing much, but I still think their great units. Essentially the GT-6 is just like another POD but built differently. Its still a "modeling" device thats used as a preamp. BUT, when it comes down to $$$, the GT is HELLA cheaper. Nothing to put in your rack, the footboard is the preamp and its all one package. The POD pro you need to buy the footswitch for, which is NOT cheap!!
Also as far as effects go I feel the GT-6 is more versatile and easier to program then a POD. I also personally would never use all the presets in a POD. I'd probably use at the most...3 or 4 of them. That to me just seems like a waste of $$$ for me. (Notice I said not "TO me, but FOR me") Its all about what application your going to be using the unit for.
I think the POD's are AWESOME for studio applications. Any # of bands that goes into a studio to record a demo, or even an album, could make a lot of use out of PODs. And if you have the $$ then they are great touring tools too.

Good luck on the quest for tone!! Im still a long long way from the end of mine. (Does the end even exist?? )
