Nah. *Looks simpler than a POD, but lots could happen just in software. *Full function USB audio ports are <$200, and a simple "imic" for macs are only $35, so I'd bet this'll run a couple hundred.

I would definitely buy something like that. *Especially if they made one for mics too.

Very cool that its powered from the USB port. *But remember that even though they hype the 24 bit convertors, you can't pump that high a stereo bitstream over USB. *It'll probably be 16 bit output.

Looks good, though...

the specs for the Midiman/M-Audio USB Quattro soundcard running at certain audio resolutions:
2 inputs, 2 outputs: 24-Bit/96kHz
4 inputs, 2 outputs: 24-Bit/44.1kHz
2 inputs, 4 outputs: 24-Bit/44.1kHz
4 inputs, 4 outputs: 16-Bit/44.1kHz
4 inputs: 24-Bit/48kHz
4 outputs: 24-Bit/48kHz

so maybe the GuitarPort will support output of 24/96....... but the POD II has 20-bit and and POD Pro has 24-bit convertors and both sample at 31.250 Khz so.......... and maybe just the modeling audio will output through the GuitarPort and the backup tracks through your soundcard into the AUX in for the G.Port..... who knows, let's wait for NAMM....

...color me stupid... ;-)

1) I was thinking "24/96" instead of "24 bit", which at 32k would have much lower bandwidth requirements.

2) Getthis is right - even 4 channels of 24/96 is possible over USB 1.1 (although just barely).

...now where DID I put that brain?...

this sort of tech is definitely the way to go

the average home PC has way more grunt than your typical effects processor... imagine if you could get eventide harmonizers simply by installing the appropriate software........

You can get many plugins for standard DX compatible audio editors. *TC electronics makes some great ones. *Never looked for harmonizers, but they gotta be out there - Antares AutoTune is...
