Guitar hanger "slatwalls"

Sorry this is in the "gear and equipment" section
but this was the closest choice for this topic.

I recently bought 8 slatwall guitar hangers..

and i gotta figure out how im going to build or buy a slatwall.

All the slatwalls i see online are 8x4 which is way too much

I need 6'x 6" (inches)
Just enough for one row across.

Any ideas?

I could always cut down the huge sheets..but i cant find them locally.
I looked in home depot today but perhaps i was looking in the wrong section.

I saw the bit i would need for a router..and its $31 bux.
too much for a one time use in my opinion.

Am I missing some obvious solution?

It would be nice to be able to slide them around..as im not exactly sure how i want to hang all the guitars.

Heres a pic of them

You could try a music store manager and ask if they have any surplus in back from the installation of theirs. Weak possibility there though.

I bought a 4x8 sheet from a used office equipment warehouse after looking at all the stores I could think of in Pittsburgh. They had palletes of the stuff. Some were slight blems and others brand new. One sheet cost me $40. They're heavy as hell, too.

In my little corner of the house the full sheet looks ok. And I can use the rest of the space for other slotwall capable storage if I need it.

thanks. I need to take a new photo. Since then, the es335 has been sold. The faded V has been replaced with a white one. The sunburst LP has been replaced with a '54 reissue LP. The bass has been replaced with a champaine gold one same model. Three 540Rs have been added. The amps are gone and replaced. Ah, gas.

Router is the way to go, and that way you can make it out of nice wood and not that crappy pressboard or plastic crap. and $30 isnt that much considering 1 4x8 board of the music store stuff would most likely run you the same if not more.

I definately like your wall!! very nice job..

My guitars are going to be hanging in a spare bedroom thats already packed with stuff
So I really dont have the room for a full piece.

Here's a googlemaps link to the store:
http://www.google.com/maps?num=20&hl...i=lmd&z=14&t=m

Even though the address is Blvd of the Allies, the entrance is around back. I believe the access road is the same as the one Magee's is on. I'd call them to make sure about the access road and of course to make sure that they still have the boards. I got mine 3 or 4 years ago.

Good luck with the project. The wall sure makes things easier.

+1. I am doing the same thing. The pre-made sheets cost a fortune, unless you find somebody to just give it to you.

I spent $40 on the 4x8. Rip's router bit is $30 plus the wood he'll need and the time finishing it if he desires. The bit can be used again and again, but if Rip only needs a portion of the pre-made board, he has several portions available in that 4x8 and it will already look nice. Just cut and attach. Still, it is pressboard and not real wood.

Time and effort is the determining factor. I chose the least amount of effort and got a professional looking outcome for the same or less $ I'd have spent doing it myself and in less time than doing it myself. YMMV

Least amount of effort is screwing the holders on a board. Holes are already there.

Until you get another guitar right? Or less guitars. The picture above has 7 gits hanging. I now have 5 on the wall with others elsewhere. The setup looks as naturally spaced now as it did then because the holders can easily move. So this wall is an investment in least effort. And, IMO anyway, slotwall looks nicer than a board. :-)

I actually thought about that..for about 10 seconds.
Wouldnt look nice enough..but even more importantly
there would only be one screw per guitar (without drilling out another hole..which isnt a problem)

It would be nice to be able to reposition them easily after the fact..
(to have more space between guitars..or less...etc)
