Guitar Multi Effects
So, I'm looking at getting myself an all in one, does anyone have any opinions?
I love the Boss GT-8 but not its price...
Anyone used the Zoom multi effects flagship thing? Its pretty interesting, especially with the
tube preamp
, especially considering my lack of a
tube amp
...
What about the biggest digitech model? Ive heard alot of bad things about digitech in general, but when I played with one in a store, its was actually pretty nice.
Keep in mind, I'm no tone master here, I just want to be able to goof with weird sounds.... (Bust out with some crazy Morello stuff... Lol) Also, I'm looking at spending less than 200 bucks... so most likely the 'bay, or used on here or ss.org.
Thanks for the advice!

Re: Guitar Multi Effects
I've got the boss ME-50 - and like it for most effects, but have yet to get a distortion I like out of it . . . but I just haven't played around with it enough . . . I'm sure it's possible.

Re: Guitar Multi Effects
I use the Zoom G9.2tt.
You can hear it on a lot of recordings on my Soundclick page:
http://www.soundclick.com/scali
"Donnez-moi la liberte", "Alive", "Competition - March" and "I Fall" are some tracks where all guitars (clean, lead, the works) are done with the G9.2tt, all recorded directly with the USB. They might give you a reasonable impression of what the unit is capable of.
Tracks like "Shredder's delight" and "Sunday Morning" are recorded over a prerecorded backing, but they show off the very cool signature 'ExtremeDistortion' tone, great for liquid leads or supermodern shred/metal sounds.

Re: Guitar Multi Effects
Yea, I played with it in the store, its built like a tank! I love the foot switches too, really hard to hit the wrong one.
In all seriousness, is the little tube in there worth it? Also, how is the double axis foot pedal? It was weird for me... Id imagine its not very useful live.

Re: Guitar Multi Effects
The tubes can be useful... Depends on the tone. Sometimes I dial in some tube, sometimes I don't. It's much like gain or eq, add to taste, and don't overdo it.
I don't use the sideways motion on the pedal much. Cute feature, but I don't need it. I only use volume and
wah pedals
normally.

Re: Guitar Multi Effects
Yea, it seems pretty weird. I could see some uses for it though. I wish it was "stiffer" though. It could be great for setting a parameter that changes alot... depending on the song.

Re: Guitar Multi Effects
I've got a Zoom G2.1u, it's sick. I love the thing, it's the greatest thing for its size and price. Though I'm slowly switching to single effects units because, all though it's more costly, it's easier to have everything on a
pedal board
(for me at least) and I only use select effects, so I'd rather have like an
MXR Phase
90 and a DS-1 and TS-9 rather than switching patches. But that's my preference.
The above post in short: Go with a Zoom.

Re: Guitar Multi Effects
In addition to my normal rig, I have the Digitech RP350.
Some (but very few) of the presets and effects suffer from the standard "over-digitalized" sound, but I've found that dialing back the compression a hair, as well as the wet/dry ratio (mix) of some of the delays/reverbs will work wonders for that problem. I love that thing, actually. Besides, for two hundred bones, it's got a fully-functioning
whammy pedal
in it, so it's a pretty sound investment if you're into that kind of thing. Good pedal all around, plus it's recording capabilities are pretty great.
