Re: Guitar or Amp or Effect...etc

Well, your guitar seems like it should be playable, and your amp could use some tubes.

So I vote for the amp

It sounds like you know what you want at least.

Then I vote in getting a new house first. Then get your amp.

Re: Guitar or Amp or Effect...etc

sounds like you realy need a good set of earphones bro or shoot your neighbours dead?-lol!, go with the new guitar for now if this a problem at least you can play it unpluged or with head phones till you sort out the problem, some sound proofing for your room would help.

Cheers- Jake.

Re: Guitar or Amp or Effect...etc

Definitely go for the amp first, as it will be the big deciding factor in your overall tone. After that, worry about getting more guitars.

Re: Guitar or Amp or Effect...etc

If you want tubes, low volume, and to use your existing pedals. Epiphone Valve Junior and a speaker cab.
Okay stop laughing. Its a great practice choice.
Its easily modable to reduce hum/improve tone. For some just a tube swap. Do a google search.
Mine sounds great with pedals and keeps up with the 2 drummers I play with.(both do have dynmics other than loud, louder, and loudest) I even used it at church with just the 8" speaker and my pedals for a month. Never got to turn it up all the way there.
YMMV

Re: Guitar or Amp or Effect...etc

Sorry, I had to throw in my 2 cents here. The FIRST thing one should do is determine which particular sound one is striving for. This will be determined somewhat by the particular style one plays too.

For myself, I play in a cover band that plays many genres of music. I have a JS-2000, JS-100 (w. the Joe and Fred p/u's), a Fender Strat, and a Parker Fly Deluxe. All of my guitars serve a purpose and will create tones the others cannot. The same holds true for my rig.

In my studio, I stick mainly to my JS-2000 and the Parker because they give me the distinct sound I'm looking for when I'm composing.

If you put the "horse in front of the cart", then you can easily determine the type of guitar, amps, pedals, etc you'll need to shape your sound.

Cheers!!
JV
