Guitar strings - The poll everyone has been waiting for!

We've all talked about it and it's in the archive section, but I haven't seen a poll for this yet. Gauge is not important.

Try to keep the posts to a minimum(and the moderators happy), as there is a thread going hot and heavy in the Archived section.

I used to use D'addarios, but under the influence of Kevan I've switched to DR Strings! Thanks Kev! I love those strings they're excellent...really great feel and good tone all round!

I can't stand D'Addarios, I can snap the top 3 strings in a fresh pack in 30 mins of playing.. Ernie Balls for me!

Kremlin,

do you play with a chainsaw instead of the pick?
A pack of D'Adds can last for weeks, even tho I do abuse of them with a heavy pick and whammy bar pulling too.

Plus... I like coloured ball-ends wrapped around the tuners!!!!!

Nuno,
I usually broke the hi E after a week of playing D'Addario 009-042, and I have a pretty light touch...turned to Ghs Boomers, same gauge, they last longer, and are more comfortable for me.

Well, i´ve already played with d´addario, dean markley, ghs boomer and others, and finally Ernnie Ball... For me, the best are the last ones i told... Ernnie Ball... They´re so smooth... I love them, and best of all... i never break them, and i use the whammy bar quite a lot in my playing

Seeya

God bless you all

Currently using DR Tite Fits, but the brand really doesn't matter, as I break the damn things anyway...
Darn SV, turned me into the fine art of Whammy abuse...

I use D'addarios cause Im afraid to use anything else really, Ive been using them for so long now that it has become routine. Personally I think they only sound good for an hour and after that they start to go downhill fast!

Ive been using GHS Boomers for years. *They sound full, bright and they barely ever break due to their strength. *Ernie Balls sound like crap to me, and D'addarios are weak wanna be strings that break at the mercy of a strong strum.

I use D'addarios on my practice gear, but they feel like they lose brightness really quick, so I string my Jem with Ernie Ball Super Slinkys

To me, it's Ernie Balls all the way. They have a sort of brightness and loudness to them that I can't get from any other strings. They have lots of balls. I use them exclusively. For accoustic guitars even!

Problem is, most of the shops down under don't stock them.

Whenever I go into a shop and ask specifically for EB strings. They'd grap me some GHS or whatever. And I'd say. "no, I wanted EB!" And they'd go. "they're the same."

Far out! They aren't.

I'd used a set of Dean Markley on my 77FP initially thinking that I'd start to sound exactly like Vai. But I returned to EB in the end.

I mainly choose Ernie Balls cause they're the only strings that are sold individually at a pawn shop i frequent to. I'm sure other stores sell them individually as well. I usually purchase a custom gauge set not found on their slinky series. Sure, i spend $10 for 7 custom gauge strings but hell, it's cheaper than buying 2 or even 3 guitar string sets and throw away the strings i don't intend on using.
