Guys, Wheres MY sound!?

Okay, I have a dilema. I have found 'MY' sound once before... It was with my crappy fender princton 112, and ZOOM 505 pedal. On this really good Distortion setting.

Now My sound that I like is that really nice NEW age metal distortion, sounds like pantera or the sounds on metallica's Master of puppets album. I like to play music such as metallica, deftones, hard heavy stuff, but then i like to wale on some satriani and vai and what not. Not that much into jazz or blues or OLDIES.

Okay since then i have gotten rid of thoes following items, BUT the reason why is cuz i wanted a BIGGER louder sound, and when i turned up that crappy amp, it sounded like JUNK... Plus it was SS, and I wanted tube or somthing.

So what does my ass do, well I go out and buy a VOX ADVT120. Now its a great amp, and very versatile, has lots of great sounds and modeling. But I couldnt get my old distortion sound out of it... VOX is a great company but it has that fuzzy, muffled sound to it, ya know??? I tried everything to get my sound outta this amp, but was disappointed to find that I didnt really come close.

What is it that I need?? Mesa Rect.??? Or what!? Did I just waist my money or should i go out and buy some pedals and hook em up to this amp?? Im just lost right now, and im sick of buying stuff and a month later not liking it. I swear Guitar Center needs some sort of TRY it policy.

The ADVT is the valvetronics right?

Personally i dont see the poing in having a half valve and half ampmodeling amp, but thats just my opinion. I think you should go out and try as many amps as possible before making another move. Be sure you find something that makes the sounds you want before going in head first.

As for getting some pedals. That amp has loadsa distortions and effects so it would kinda defeat the point of having an amp like that if you just started using disto pedals over the top of it IMO.

One amp i have found which does the metallica tone quite well is the marshall AVT275 believe it or not!

Cheers

I'd look into Line6. I use a Flextone II and can come really close to everything from Metallica, to Satriani, to Korn, to Vai, to who knows what else. And the Vetta, Flextone III, etc, are way better than the Flextone II.

Just remember the tone's in the fingers
