Hardtail conversion for RG5xx models - pros/cons headaches?!

Has anyone converted their RG570/560/550 from an Edge trem to a hardtail of some kind?
If so, would the "string thru body" like a Tele AmStd be the way to go or would a "tune-a-matic" (Gibson style) rig work better?

this was previously discussed in the forum. the conclusion was it's a difficult process that would probably be more effective just to block the tremolo completely instead.

If you still insisted to proceed, i'd use a string thru body bridge myself ...glen

Glen: I payed $250 for the axe I want to do this to, so I'm not in in for a lot. That being said, it's in superb condition, a 1991 RG560. The pickup model numbers are as clear as if the axe were only a few months old. Plastic covers still on the back plates & truss rod cover, too. The neck is straight & the frets have no wear.
It's been well cared for so I want to be good to it, too.
I have no intention of trashing it.
Maybe I'll just cop a custom made RG hardtail instead.

Just for curiosity's sake, take a look on p. 13 of the 2001 Ibanez catalog...looks like PG has done this very thing on that maple board guitar.

Greg: I'll check that pic out when I get home from work. You reminded me that I do have pics of a pinkish colored RG that Mr Gilbert played & it had a filled in trem route.
In his Racer-X days we used to see it a lot & I think he's using it on his first instructional video. Gosh....it's been so long since I've watched it I forgot. hmmmm...I better watch that one & the second one tonight just to be sure!
