Hartley Peavey interview-new JSX round the corner

Just read this interview with Hartley Peavey: (you have to register to read it.
http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazin...ey.aspx?Page=3

That means there will soon be a 50 Watt 2 channel JSX head for sale. Maybe thats the reason why the first head din`t come with half power switch?

Re: Hartley Peavey interview-new JSX round the corner

I guess that's the amp Satch told me about when I interviewed him in June. Regarding the track 'Come On Baby' from his latest CD, he said:

"I was playing through a prototype amp which is an older style, with 6V6 tubes in it, so it’s a vintage style smaller head. Those things are basically Class A designs, and they really react to what’s coming to the input. In other words, what you’re sending into that input jack, which means, as you said, playing with the volume control really changes the nature of the amp, and you can get hundreds of tones just by playing with the volume control."

Re: Hartley Peavey interview-new JSX round the corner

From the Premier Guitar article:

“Traditionally, 50-watt amps always seem to have the perfect amount of volume and sag to create a true rock & roll moment,” Satriani says. “But the golden era of the 50-watt didn’t see a version that had a variety of sounds or were actually useful tools for the gigging musician. Peavey and I were finally able to bring this idea of a really rockin’ 50-watt into the modern era where real guitar players can use it. We wound up with a really bold, in-yourface sound.” - Joe Satriani

If they were ready to release the specs to Premier Guitar, which would have been done several months ago due to publication lead-in times, I'd say you can expect it at NAMM in a few weeks.

Anyone else find it strange how Satch and Vai release the same types of products at the same time over the last couple of years?
Still, let's hope this amp is a little more wallet friendly than the new Legacy because the features on the new JSX have me hooked. Can't wait for it to come out!

Thanks for that quotation. I have a Mini Colossal, and I have noticed how sensitive the amp is in that regard. Pick attack and the guitar volume knob really do make a difference. I still don't fully understand how it works, but Satch's words here help me get closer to understanding.

By the way, I read a Hartley Peavey interview recently where he hints at a revolutionary new amp technology that his company will come out with soon. Anybody have any idea about this? Hype or something really cool?

Peace

Mike

I think he was referring to some of the technology they're working on with the software amp stuff like the revalver and other things. I'd imagine a lot of it is hype, but if they can get it to the point where you're even tweaking things like tube types and certain circuits, that could be really cool.
Modelling stuff isn't about a million sounds for one person as much as it's about 1 or 2 sounds for a million people.

sounds like a high gain class A amp... or a bigger beefier version of his Mini Colossal.

I can only assume they are going to call this one the "Super Colossal" or something! ha ha

Why not keep the 6V6 design, hate to see yet another amp use 6L6's Its about time amp manufactures started to use some funky tube types, they don't know what they are missing.

I think Hartley's intent is to unveil the amp and the amp custom shop at NAMM. Apparently you'll be able to order any peavey amp and make it what you want (from the video I saw at PG). Hartley did say one will have to pay for what he/she is getting.

There's a press release about this on the Peavey website. I'm going to post it on my blog tomorrow - trying to space out a little bit of the news so I don't overload myself today!
