HELP !!


Hey all I have a chance to score a RG 420, here locally, the guy says he switched the magnets on stock pickups to Alnico 5 in neck and ceramic in bridge, Im not a tech guy so in laymans terms what does that mean pros/cons and sound wise thanks Jemsters!! Sambo

Well if I were you I would first see if the rest of the guitar is worth buying. If you like it then proceed with caution. The pickups can always be changed.

Alinco means the type of material the magnets are made out of (Aluminium, Nickel and cobalt) there are different variations 2,5 and maybe 8. Each variation has it's own characteristics. I'm not very knowledgeable about the distinctions but if it sounds good who cares.

Cermaic magnets are a newer technology that gives incresead pickup output. Many high output humbuckers have cermaic magnets. I use a pup with a cermaic magnet it's powerful yet articulate.

Thanks !! Im gonna trade for it so I wont have alot into it, but I dont have experience with the Alnicos, I would have preferred to have the stock V7/V8, always found them to work fine, I appreciate ya taking the time to respond brother, be blessed !! Sambo

Hey I read the article very cool, thank you, he stated that he had Alnico 5 in the neck and ceramic in the bridge so per the article is sounds as though it might be an upgrade to the sound Im gonna check it out tomorrow, thanks again Sambo, love this site, very cool people
