HELP!!! *I think i might be retarded

what is wrong with me? *i just bought a rivera tbr-1sl, the amp that bob has and raves about. *ive had a triaxis/2:90 setup and *a marshall jcm 900. *but of all these, my favorite lead tone comes from a marshall jmp-1 into a vht 2/50/2 --- i am fully aware that the jmp-1 only has 2 tubes, and i have tried everything i know to persuede myself otherwise, but my favorite tones come from the jmp-1. * WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME??? *i have to be the only idiot in the world that thinks this. *believe it or not, im a tone freak --- i spend hours and hours tweaking everything i can get my hands on, and it comes down to liking such a sad sad preamp. *anyone know what my problem is? *i cleaned my ears to make sure that wasnt it.

Not retarded at all, it's got nothing to do with the AMOUNT of valves.....see here and follow the link (you'll find a demo or 2) http://jemsiteforum.com/board/topic....&replies=3

HELP!!! *I think i might be retarded

the ADA MP-1 preamps that a lot of bands used in the 80's and 90's to get a killer sound only had 2 12ax7's. the preamp i'm using now only has 2 tubes, and i couldn't be happier.

If you found your favorite amp why are you buying different ones? *The only retarded thing I see is to have your favorite tone and not use it.

As an added bonus, at least your amp isn't one of those $434203980.96... 36 channel Diesel's or whatever else people talk about now and then.

It's all what you hear and very subjective. If your Marshall jmp-1 produces the tone you want, stick with it, no need to go searching and spending.

Congrats on narrowing down your tone! *Stick with the JMP-1. *Something I've noticed with myself is that sometime my taste fluctuates and I drift from likeing one rig to another.

Shawn ~ I seem to be having a very similar problem; my JMP-1 through my Mesa 20/20 really rocks my world, and my poor Formula Pre is being sorely ignored as a result! But the Formula has 5 12AX7s in it! and the JMP-1 is really a {shudder} hybrid!! But damn, it sounds GOOD!

I've also noticed that *the guitar magazine Guitarist uses the JMP-1 in their recordings. So, you're not alone Anyway, I had a Valvestate once, and I really thought the sound was awesome. What I think now, shouldn't be menitioned, but back then, the Valvestate had the ultimate tone for me...

HELP!!! *I think i might be retarded

Geez! I go on vacation and I have to go 4 pages back to catch up…

Though the TBR-1SL is very versatile for a tube amp, I still had to tweak for some time to nail my favorite tone. I also still use my Marshall for some tones I want. Out of all the amps I have tried, the Rivera has been my favorite. Re-tubing my 1978 Marshall and sticking a simple DS-1 in front of it has re-ignited my passion for that amp as well.

I like ‘em both, but if I was forced to give one up it would be the Marshall. NOTE: I was not as happy with the Rivera before I found the right cab for it.

You are not retarded! The way components in an amp interact can make a big difference in tone. Your Marshall has the right combination for you. I can see it. I have always liked them. The way the components interact can be adjusted on the TBR-1SL. That’s way I like it. However, it is no small task finding the right combination to dial in your own tone.

It’s funny… I have mine set up to sound a LOT like my Marshall rig.

Ya know when I'm in that mood that I want to kick back and drive fast, I load the car's disc player with a ton o' Megadeth. It guarantees I get 'anywhere' fast.

the point o' the above?

Dave Mustaine absolutely swears by his Marshall unit. *He's been a hardcore Marshall Pre-Amp owner for YEARS now...and that tone ... FLOORS me. *Super tight compressed rhythms that blow your earlobes inside out.

If it's that tone-a-licious for him...

why couldn't it be for you?

I'm responsable for Bob's Rivera obsession. I admit it, I'm a very bad boy.

As said previously by others in here, if you like your Marshall preamp, then stick with it. It's what sounds right to you that counts.

As for the TBR's, you do have to spend copious amounts of time with them. They are literally infinitely tweakable.
