Hipshot

http://store.hipshotproducts.com/car...ct_detail&p=87

I have installed these on several guitars. Most recently my LP Gold Top this morning. It doesn't match my "classic" tuning pegs. But, I don't care about that. My LP sounds terrific plugged into anything. And the Hipshot makes D tuning a mere a flip of a lever. Trust me, it's the bet $70 you can spend on a fixed bridge guitar. Period.

Rock on, Darin

Re: Hipshot

Considering drop D is a mere turn of the knob anyway, I think this is the most worthless mod ever created

Re: Hipshot

I'm going to have to highly disagree with you. Few things make you sound like an idiot and are more annoying than someone D tuning live, "bararraarrowww baarrrooowweerrrrooorrr" Trying to get the D note in tune when surrounded by all the other noise going on. If you are at your tuner, perhaps you can make a quick enough change. But you aren't always at your pedal board between songs, and sometimes you may want to change tunings DURING the song. When it's as simple as a flip of lever, it's absolutely not a wast of money. Once you install one of these puppies on your hard tail, you wont go back.

Re: Hipshot

To me it all comes down to a matter of convenience. Flipping a lever and immediately dropping to D is very convenient. Now whether or not you are willing to pay for the convenience is a whole other matter.

Re: Hipshot

It's not a matter of poor tuning skills. You have to hear yourself tune down, which means so does everyone else. And if you can't hear yourself clearly, which you won't when playing in a live situation. Then you'll either have to get to your pedal board to check your tuning, holding up the next song, or you'll be playing slightly out of tune. Either way, it's unprofessional. Now if you going to be playing with yourself, then I guess that's a different story.

Of all the thing you'll spend $70 on, this is by no means expensive.

Unprofessional? Ever been to the orchestra? They retune [very loudly] between pieces, and nobody ever claimed they were unprofessional.

If I could sit through anything with an orchestra, I might agree with you. I saw Yanni years ago. I don't remember if they returned or not, But I remember wanting a piano string to hang myself with.

It was the in-laws. They had tickets, we were invited. Couldn't really say no. Really. Saw Harry Connick Jr a couple times too. That was a "little" better. Oh, and the Nut Cracker ballet. It's what you do when you're married.

Uh Darin?

Doesn't your tuner have a mute function while you're tuning? Mine does. Also, I know I'm not the most experienced player int he world but in all of the live setting I've played I was never that far away from my tuner.

I'm with Rich, crappy invention.

Re: Hipshot

So it's basically a D-Tuna for a fixed bridge?
Some people will find it useful, some won't. Seems like a pretty cut and dry discussion.

Re: Hipshot

But they can give you a good tone for shred, blues, jazz, country and brutal nu-metal.

Also when Vai need to down tune, he just meditates his strings lower.
