Hmmm... Mesa Mark IV question

Okay, so I've been searching for a while to get my first tube amp, and the Mesa Mark Iv has really grown on me, so I've decided on that. But I have no idea if I should get it in Head/Cabinet form or a combo. I would prefer getting the combo due to the lack of space I have in my room (And its alot cheaper), but would that sound different or inferior to a head/cabinet set up? Thanks for your input.

Re: Hmmm... Mesa Mark IV question

1 or 2 speakers sounds like 1 or 2 speakers
4 speakers sounds like 4

you'll lose some headroom and wont have that 'big' sound.

Re: Hmmm... Mesa Mark IV question

It'll be that much quieter .

The 1x12 combo will be pleanty loud enough for most uses, im using only 1 speaker out of a 2x12 cab with my TriAxis at the moment, and i still cant get the dial past 8 o clock without the volume getting too much .

Re: Hmmm... Mesa Mark IV question

I really dont need that much "loudness" ATM. I guess if I would I would pick up an extension speaker, I've seen Mesa Mark Iv speakers like that before. Aslong as I get great tone, I'll be fine.

Re: Hmmm... Mesa Mark IV question

get a 112 widebody combo. It sounds huge! then get a thiele cab for that tight low end that marks are known for. think DT, LOG etc.

Re: Hmmm... Mesa Mark IV question

Oh yeah, another question. When I buy this amp, Im also buying a whammy pedal. Would this go into the fx loop? I would assume so, but can I use the amps lead channel at the same time? How would this work?

Re: Hmmm... Mesa Mark IV question

no, put the whammy in front. the effects loop is in between the pre and power amp. so if the whammy was there, you would be sending a post eq signal to the whammy. it will not sound the same as a clean uneffected signal going into the whammy. however you may like the sound better that way, there are no rules when it comes to your tone.

Awesome, thanks man.

I cant wait till I order one. I cant stand my roland cube 30 anymore. And paired with my GNX4, its just digital crap overlapped with digital crap. Imma sell the GNX4 on **** after I get it.

Re: Hmmm... Mesa Mark IV question

Actually, the Cube 30's one of the better modelers I've played.

Also worth keeping in mind is that generally Mesa cabs come with V30's, while the Mark-IV combo comes with a 200-watt EV speaker, if memory serves. Personally, right out of the box I prefer the tones from the 1x12 combo to the same combo hooked up to a 4x12 Recto cab, but it's also worth noting that I REALLY like Mesa's C90 Black Shadow speaker, and a 4x12 or 2x12 packed with those (a factory option) would be an entirely different beast.

Re: Hmmm... Mesa Mark IV question

Maybe because I have digital effects going into a digital modeling amp. I dont know, it just sounds bad.

Re: Hmmm... Mesa Mark IV question

new Mark IVs come with C90 Blackshadow Celestions. The EV's were 300w speakers. The ev 12L. They are the same ones that bare ZWs "black label". Amazing speakers for the tight sound Marks are known for.

Trust me, get the 112 widebody combo. Then get a 112 Thiele extention cab. That is the best way to get the utmost out of your MkIV.

Like this? I'm not gonna buy this one, I'm a couple of hundred short, but I just want to know if this is the right model.

Re: Hmmm... Mesa Mark IV question

exactly!! You are never going to be able to stop playing it. I love mine.

Here's a little story... I had a Mark IVa. I sold it to get the immortal Mark IIc+. I loved the dirty channel of the c+, but I missed the vibe of the IV. I soon bought a IVb. Discovered that the sound was different. sold the IVb and bought a imbuya/ wicker IVa. The reason that I loved the IVa is the speaker! My IVa has the EV12L. This speaker owns! I have since bought a 112 Thiele cab to compliment my MkIV, perfection.
