How do YOU do it?

Hi all, I've been thinking about switching to stompboxes instead of a Boss GT-8 for a while now. I'm after digitech hardwires, I wanna keep my guitar tone as unchanged as possible with the true bypass's and all. I'm thinking though, on a GT-8 you can save all of your used effects from all the effects in the machine and then change to a 'patch' just one subtle chorus at the push of a pedal, but you can't do that with stompboxes simply really. I'm curious to how you would change from a clean with effects to amp distortion without effects (chorus) quickly (e.g. Metallica's Welcome Home). Would you use smart loops such as on a Carvin V3 to 'remember' it for you? Would you just use a GT-8 and press the patch button and the channel footswitch for the amp? Would you hit a stompbox and the the channel button? What about if it gets more complicated than just say chorus and channel? How do YOU do it :P?
Thanks
Regards
Jonny

Re: How do YOU do it?

The only pedals I really use are a DOD EQ, and Crybaby. Maybe chorus if I'm recording something. Live it's just me, the amp, and the 2 pedals. Except for solo gigs which I use even less for...

Re: How do YOU do it?

Thanks dudes! Jimmy, that's awesome lol thanks dude :P! I agree with ya DEADTUNES666 I'm hardly an effect-head myself, I had to be sure it's possible to combine the pureness of a true bypass with the versatility and the ease of one pedal push multi effects :P! I think it's gonna be (for now until i can afford a more high end amp) just my guitar, a re-tubed valveking, V30 loaded 4x12 VK cab, digitech hardwire chorus and delay in the effects loop and some gigs hopefully lol xD!
Thanks everyone
Regards
Jonny

There's also this:
http://www.carlmartin.com/octaswitch%20news.htm

I too have recently made the change from GT-8 to pedals.

Also, don't stress too much about true bypass (especially if you're going to use a looper like the Octaswitch or the Voodoo Labs stuff!). You wouldn't plug into your amp with a 50 foot cord, and having a bypassed true bypass pedal in your signal chain is just as bad. Read this: http://www.petecornish.co.uk/case_ag...ue_bypass.html

Re: How do YOU do it?

the carlmartin octaswitch is pretty sweet! I only have like 2 pedals and a wah right now though so I don't really need it.

Re: How do YOU do it?

I'm the same as Newbieguitarmaker really, i will only be using a chorus, delay and a wah for 95% of the time. Petie, would that still mean the same if the pedals are in the effects loop? So, that kinda puts for example BOSS on a high as they use 1 megaohm input inpedances right? I actually have a BOSS Chorus and delay pedal that I've been given, would these be better than a true bypass pedal? Really didn't see that coming tbh, thanks dude!

Yep, Boss pedals are a kind of 'secret' way of using a buffer without paying for a separate one, hehe. Well I use my Boss Octave pedal at the start of the chain, and the difference it makes to the whole signal is huge, especially in making my wah sound full and quiet.

Re: How do YOU do it?

So that's definate, even in the effects loop it makes a big positive difference? Would that just be one boss pedal though? What if I use two? I know this is common to be done but will more than one 'buffer' (pedal) in the chain have any detrimental effect?
Thanks

Hmm, I'm not sure about the effect loop. Anyone else able to comment?

Re: How do YOU do it?

The effects loop is in series if it helps . Petie, would you recommend having a pedal before my amp? I'm using a Boss DD-3 Delay and a Boss CE-2 Chorus at the moment, would you recommend having them before the amp rather than in the effects loop? What difference would it make to the tone? Is it better to have effects like chorus and delay in the loop or before the amp?
Thanks
Regards
Jonny
