Re: how much do you pay for strings?
My buddy reports to me that Gibson strings are fantastic. Not sure if he's right or not, but whatever. Just my $0.02

Re: how much do you pay for strings?
Ernie Ball, $5 per pack. I don't like Elixers, D'Addarios, Drs, Deans. Also Fender Bullet strings I usually try and use for my fender so it stays in tune longer same price as ernie ball strings. With my ernie ball strings I can last about 1-2 months and I play a crap load, like I'm
playing guitar
while I do everything too so I get crazy amts of time on my strings

Re: how much do you pay for strings?
Right now i'm usin D'Addario 10's which i pay about 3, 3.50 for. I was thinking of going for the 9 - 46s, but may switch to the 10 - 52 set (and yes, i'd play in E...maybe Drop D for some songs).

Re: how much do you pay for strings?
With the exchange rate the way it is I think I paid ~£1 per set from my supplier in the states ... I did have to buy 50 sets though.... but seeing as they are ~£7-8 in the local stores its not a bad deal

I've been using Elixirs for years now. I play Elixir Nanoweb 10-46's with a .68 low B. I order them from
www.juststrings.com
- I pay something like $10 a set, plus about $3.83 I think for the individual low B (they don't offer bundled seven string sets, but when I asked them about it they pointed me to juststrings so I could custom-assemble sets, which was nearly life-changing.
)
They hold up forever. The coating doesn't "flake" exactly on the nanowebs, rather it begins to wear through and shred where you pick after a month or so. The strings still sound relatively fresh for some time after that, though - I've got a set of Nanowebs on my UV right now that I think I put on just before christmas, and they're beginning to sound a bit dull, but they're still totally playable. I've been meaning to throw on a fresh set for the last week, but as of yet have not.
So, basically I'm paying like $14 a set. This particular set has lasted me about 6 months. This means I'm paying like $2.33 a month for my strings, which I think is pretty damned reasonable.

I used to use Gibson strings on my acoustic. They came individually vacuum-sealed. They sounded pretty good. However, since my acoustic plays terribly (it's a Harmony from JC Penney), it's currently in the basement.
After more than a year of D'Addario, I decided to try DRs a few months ago, and I'm completely satisfied with them. I bought my second pack a few days ago, and I'm convinced that they're the greatest strings ever. They have everything I'm looking for in a string. They're bright and sparkly, they last forever, they feel great, and they can withstand quite a beating. And they're only $5.00 a pack, just like everything else.
