how much do you pay for strings?
How much do you pay and what brand do you use, and also maybe give us a heads up on where you purchase them so fellow jemsiters can get a good deal!

Re: how much do you pay for strings?
I pay about six bucks for mine. I use
Dean Markley Blue Steel
Cryo's, or EB Regular Slinkies. I buy mine at Music Go Round.

$3 /set if you buy the 10 pack of D'Addarion XLs from MF. Thinking of switching to something else, maybe heavier bottom end, or those balanced tension sets.

$15 AUD ($12 USD) damn i never realised but thats expensive compared to what you guys pay, and there called "Roto Yellows" from rotosound, i only get them because they come with an extra 1st E string, i think i might switch soon to D'addarios, but there about the same price as well.

D'Addarios aren't that great, IMO. They don't retain their tone for very long.

Agreed, I only use them because I'm afraid of the trem freaking out if I change brands, and because I'm still living on d'addario freebies. If I changed my strings more often they'd be fine, but I'm lazy
Blue steel is okay, the tone was brighter but I didn't like the extra tension they had, and I've heard
steel strings
are bad for frets. EB is looser than d'addario, but even shorter lived. Elixir, too expensive and the coating flakes off and leaves my pickups dusty.
Not sure whats left to try, DR?

Yeah, D'Addario's are kind of... Meh.
I've really been wanting to try Elixirs, but I've heard that they aren't very durable. I really don't even care if they flake, so long as they retain their tone.
Can anybody recommend a super strong string to me? I abuse the hell out of my strings, and I haven't been able to find a brand that can stand up to my punishment yet.

Play thicker strings? I never break strings and I play the D'Addario .011-.049 set.

www.webstrings.com
With 4 guitars I can't justify expensive "designer" strings anymore, I'd rather have new strings on the guitar than decent sounding old ones. I've used DRs and Everlys in the past, but I like these Webstrings a lot at half the price.

Re: how much do you pay for strings?
I was a
Dean Markley
guy in the '80s. I started using DM because
Ernie Ball
Super Slinkys I had been using since the '70s would start to rust after a week. I also tried Fender Bullets, GHS Boomers, DR and Snarling Dogs. I was turned on to a set of D'Addario XL120 by a friend and liked them a lot. I find their tone holds up very well, and they're much brighter than EB or DM.
A few years ago, I was setting up a friend's guitar and he wanted Elixers on it when I was finished. To my ears they sounded too dark and lacked the sparkle that I like to hear from a freshly strung guitar.
I've been playing the XL120s since about 1990 and I get them in 10 packs for $29.99 at MF.

Re: how much do you pay for strings?
I'm currently using D'Addarios because I was given a box of 50 sets.
However I find myself buying Dr-Extras now and then. Gotta love the colours.

Re: how much do you pay for strings?
I buy D'Addarios, 3 sets for £10. I used some Slinkys for the first time in a while last month too, i dont really see a huge difference between then, but i think the Slinkeys sound better to start with, but lose their tone a lot quicker than the D'Addarios.

Re: how much do you pay for strings?
I was at
Sam Ash
today and got a pack of DR tite fits for 5 bucks and some change and I also got a set of D'addario Pro Arte classical strings for like 7 bucks and change. Before that I bought the 10 pack of D'addario XL's from Musicans Friend for like 30 bucks, and before that I got some GHS Boomers at Guitar Center for like 4 bucks I think they were.

Re: how much do you pay for strings?
Used to be an Ernie Ball guy because I ESPECIALLY loved the feel, and the tone was outstanding and would last fresh for weeks. I'd still be using them if I didn't work for DR.
But, now working for DR, I use the Hi-Beams. They're EXCELLENT strings as well, amazing tone. not the same feel, but still great.
