How to get Randy Rhoads/Jake e Lee tone?

I have a marshall jem 800 half stack , but the drive isnt enough for this, what do you recommend. I tried the mxr distortion plus, but I didnt like it. I think Jake uses an od-1, is that anygood?

An MXR+ will give you a VERY fuzzy sound. Randy definitly did it. I also tried it at one time and did not like it at all. I think a tighter overdrive unit is more called for. A TS-9, OD-1 or SP-1 is probably more what the doctor ordered for you.

I would never sell the earlier 800 amp if I were you. I had a 2203 and sold it a little ways back and Ive been kicking myself in the ass ever since.
