How would Evo pickups sound in this guitar?

Hey guys, I've got a Carvin C66 in the mail headed my way. It's got a set of the C22 carvin pickups which aren't bad actually but not for the heavy stuff. More for classic rock and blues than anything so I was curious as to how the Dimarzio Evo's would sound in it.

The body is made of alder and has a flamed maple top. The neck is bolt on and is made of maple also. The pickups are direct mount to the body.

Would the evo's be too bright with this combination? Or would they give me a pretty warm and Vai-ish tone?

If you guys think this would be way too bright, what would be a better combination for a big hard rock heavy set of pickups that would work well with this guitar? BTW, I've got a S470 on the way with an Air Norton/Tone Zone waiting to go in. Neither are being used strictly for metal. I play a wide variety of stuff from Dream Theater to Satch to Vai to Pink floyd, etc.

This is her BTW

well, Steve Vai has an alder body for his Jem's equipped with Evolutions... so I'd say if you like his tones that he's getting then go for it... a lot of people on this forum like that perticular pickup. I played it once... I wouldn't say it was really bright but it had a lot of presence and sizzle to it's sound IMO.

EVO's might be a little bright in your guitar. Perhaps a pair of BREEDS.

I'd go Evo2 in the bridge instead of regular Evo, it's tamed down a bit, but still might be a little bright. The Norton (not Air Norton) might be a better choice in the bridge with a PAF Pro in the neck. But, that's just my opinion, YMMV. Breeds are a good choice too for Vai tones, they are almost too polite but still nice sounding pickups.

I'd think the Evos would be a bit bright with the maple top but the alder body part is all good for Evos.

PAF Pros or Breeds or a Tone Zone (bridge)-PAF Pro (neck) would probably be better options. Or a Duncan Custom 5 and Pearly Gates if you want to screw your clean tone and just get a mean distortion tone...

I have two RG's
one with evos and one with tz and paf pro

my advice is, dont put evos on that guitar, I find them thin sounding,,
but each to his own mate....

eh, the evos have been ordered. If I don't like them I can swap out the tone zone and air norton that will be going in my S470... If that don't work, I can always cash in on musician's friend's 45 day return policy.
