Re: Hum cancelling single coil in middle position...sucks tone?
I assume its just a case of "sounds like crap."
I was thinking about this earlier today; for some reason this remark popped into my head, and I couldn't stop wondering about it. I guess it sort of makes sense.
In positions two and 4, it's the middle single coil plus the coil of the humbucker closest to the single coil. So if you're using a, say, DiMarzio Cruiser in the mid, you've got single coil tone, but since positions 2 and 4 are already hum-canceling, a second form of hum-cancel from the middle single coil is sort of overkill. Those, in some way, shape, or form, the tone is hurt. Anyone think this theory is true, have experience with it, or think or know that it's total crap? Thanks.
