Oh man, i'm really excited about this, and i want to share it with you guys.
I was looking for a Wah pedal and a friend of mine was selling his Morley PDW, the one that has wah, distortion
and volume. I tried it in with his low-end yamaha guitar and Marshall valvstate combo. The wah sounded fine so i bought it. The surprise came when i was at home.
I plugged my Jem VWH into the morley and then to my Marshall JCM 900 2X12 combo (with 5881 tubes). The wah sounded great, not much sweep range but i liked it. The surprise came when i turned on the distortion... and oh man, I FOUND MY SOUND!!! The combination of the distortion of the Morley (it doesn't REALLY sound like a
distortion pedal, it is more and
overdrive pedal) with the distortion of the JCM900 is simply beautifull to my ears - tight low-end, screaming highs, liquid distortion for legatos... and the fact that i have the VWH doesn't hurt either.

The sound is much, much better than with my Boss DS-1 - it sounds fine, but it's a little harsh. But not with the Morley. Simply awesome!
I think this proves that you don't have to buy the gear that the "pros" use to get YOUR sound. I mean. a lot of people dislike the Marshall JCM 900 with 5881 tubes, saying it sucks big time. And the Morley distortion isn't famous either for fattening a sound (you use a DS-1, a SD-1 or a TubeScreamer for that). But we're talking about you, about your ears. It's a very personnal thing. What other people say it has the greatest sound on earth, may not suit you at all. Everyone is different and everyone has a different idea of what about a good sound is. *And the fact that some pros use pedal X doesn't mean you should buy it or it's the best for you. I confess that i bought the DS-1 because Vai also uses it. But it dind't gave me the exact sound i was expecting. And then, by "accident", i found a pedal that i never thought about, and it was the end of my
search for MY tone.
I never tried Boogies, Soldanos or Bogners, so my perception of a good tone might be a little limited. But i've never played a guitar/pedal/amp combo that sounded as good as the sound i am having now. I also think that if it sounds good to your ears, it is good! It doesn't mind if other people say it sucks. It's the sound that you love, the one that makes you play and makes you a better player.
And i guess that's what counts, after all.
