I FOUND MY SOUND!!! - And i wanna share it with you!

Oh man, i'm really excited about this, and i want to share it with you guys.

I was looking for a Wah pedal and a friend of mine was selling his Morley PDW, the one that has wah, distortion
and volume. I tried it in with his low-end yamaha guitar and Marshall valvstate combo. The wah sounded fine so i bought it. The surprise came when i was at home.

I plugged my Jem VWH into the morley and then to my Marshall JCM 900 2X12 combo (with 5881 tubes). The wah sounded great, not much sweep range but i liked it. The surprise came when i turned on the distortion... and oh man, I FOUND MY SOUND!!! The combination of the distortion of the Morley (it doesn't REALLY sound like a distortion pedal, it is more and overdrive pedal) with the distortion of the JCM900 is simply beautifull to my ears - tight low-end, screaming highs, liquid distortion for legatos... and the fact that i have the VWH doesn't hurt either. The sound is much, much better than with my Boss DS-1 - it sounds fine, but it's a little harsh. But not with the Morley. Simply awesome!

I think this proves that you don't have to buy the gear that the "pros" use to get YOUR sound. I mean. a lot of people dislike the Marshall JCM 900 with 5881 tubes, saying it sucks big time. And the Morley distortion isn't famous either for fattening a sound (you use a DS-1, a SD-1 or a TubeScreamer for that). But we're talking about you, about your ears. It's a very personnal thing. What other people say it has the greatest sound on earth, may not suit you at all. Everyone is different and everyone has a different idea of what about a good sound is. *And the fact that some pros use pedal X doesn't mean you should buy it or it's the best for you. I confess that i bought the DS-1 because Vai also uses it. But it dind't gave me the exact sound i was expecting. And then, by "accident", i found a pedal that i never thought about, and it was the end of my
search for MY tone.

I never tried Boogies, Soldanos or Bogners, so my perception of a good tone might be a little limited. But i've never played a guitar/pedal/amp combo that sounded as good as the sound i am having now. I also think that if it sounds good to your ears, it is good! It doesn't mind if other people say it sucks. It's the sound that you love, the one that makes you play and makes you a better player.

And i guess that's what counts, after all.

Thanks for sharing,
Armindo Dias

I FOUND MY SOUND!!!

You found the holy grail-well done!

My 'sound' changes regularly. It used to be a sort of Eddie 'brown' sound. The tone on the track 5150 was IT.

The sound I aspire to now is something like the sound Vai got on the Guitarist cd where he was demoing the BSB JEM. I would love to know how he got that sound *onto tape/disk, cause my POd doesn't seem up to it.

Any ideas???

I FOUND MY SOUND!!!

Best of luck to you, bachle7!

It's a fantastic experience when you hear a sound coming out of the speakers that makes you think: man, this cannot be true... I FOUND MY SOUND!!! I wish that all of you can find it too.

I don't know if 'my sound' will change in the future... but for now, i'm in heaven with what i got. I was driving nuts because i bought a fantastic guitar (VWH) and didn't have a decent amp tone to make this guitar justice. I was thinking about buying a pre-amp (the JMP-1) or a Legacy combo or a 5150 combo or a CyberTwin or a POD Pro or a Mesa Formula, etc... And then, by surprise, i got it! And i don't need to spend more money with that gear.

I FOUND MY SOUND!!!

The BSB demo is the BSB into a Crybaby, Boss OD-1, Laney LC-15. *

On the topic of MY tone:

I have yet to find MY tone. *I'm currently playing a Squire Affinity Strat from '97 (before they started shrinking them) through a Korg Toneworks AX-1G to a JVC Kaboom! stereo system. lol *Oh yeah, and I've got a Super Distortion in the bridge of my Strat. *The stereo has a guitar input and drum machine and is great for simple recording or doubling guitars. *But it's got too much bottom end, cuz it's got two sub-woofers in it. *I find it gets really muddy when playing rhythm stuff, not enough crunch, which could also be the Korg. *I'm looking into a real amp soon. *I find my tone for lead is pretty close to what I'd want for that though. *I still would like more harmonics, better dynamic response and a more in your face sound when needed. *But when I go to my lead patch on the Korg, roll off the mid on the JVC, kick in the neck and mid singles on my Strat and roll off the neck tone knob, it sounds great.

I think this proves that you don't have to buy the gear that the "pros" use to get YOUR sound.
That's right... tone is in the fingers!
