Thumbs up

I Played A Diezel Herbert For 2 Hours Today!!!!!!

Throw all other high gain amps away!!!!!
There is NOTHING that compares with the Hubert.
SAVE YOUR MONEY.....BUY A HERBERT!!! You will
NEVER want another amp...I know, I know $4100 is VERY
expensive. Some of us will never be able to afford it,
but IF you can save your pennies...do it!!! AND I know, to
each his own...yeah, yeah....The hubert serves ALL
high gain amp purposes.PERIOD!!!
I have played them all, Soldano, mesa, rivera, randal
marshal, hughes and kettner, you name it.....
I'm telling you for 2 hours I was in sonic heaven. It's
so tight yet so dynamic. On channel 3, with the gain wide
open and the bass rolled back the definition never strayed.
Super sweet attack at ANY gain level. Also, you know on some
amps, you get a frequency in the 400hz-700hz that you can't get
rid of no matter what you do with the eq, no
problems with that on the Hubert. This amp has serious range
with the eq. Any sweet EL34 based tone you want!!!!
It has a Deep control that adds a nice low freq. under every thing
that makes the sound HUGE!!! If you play with the mid cut feature
with the clean channel, you can get that "sisters" tone, you know,
that "glassy" tone.....very nice....
I know most people won't ever get a chance to play one of
these, so I thought I would give my 2 cents worth....

Make that 4 cents worth because I played one at GC a couple months ago after a guy at work told me he bought one. It is the best sounding amp by far that I've ever played. $4100 is high but considering you get Mesa, Marshall and whetever sound you want from it, it's not so bad. Of course if you just like a specific Mesa or Marshall sound, they are much cheaper than $4100.

And I incidentally played it with an RGA121 and an RGT320Q.

Re: I Played A Diezel Herbert For 2 Hours Today!!!!!!

I didn't like it when I played it. TONS AND TONS of gain that's for sure but the clean channel was too sterile and harsh for my liking. I couldn't coax a good blues tone out of it to save my life and from what I've gathered, the Herbert wasn't made to play blues but for $4000, I would think it could do anything. I wasn't using a junk guitar either... it was an Anderson strat so I know the guitar wasn't the problem. I tried the amp in several different cabs but just couldn't do it.

Now Deizel's Einstein... THAT'S and amp worth owning. It's got nearly as much gain as the Herbert but it's got the sweetest deepest richest cleans EVER. And for $1000 less than the herbert. It doesn't have the tweakablity and it's only 2 channels but those two channels did more for me than the three on the herbert could.

At the end of the day though, for $3000, I would have liked to take the Bogner Ecstacy 101B home over any of the Deizels. The 101B is just the perfect amp in every single way.

Re: I Played A Diezel Herbert For 2 Hours Today!!!!!!

My only gripe against the Herbert is that it's so friggin' loud...180 Watts are insane. You need to pump the powertubes a bit to get the best sound but with that top it's ridiculous...get a THD Hotplate ('recommended' by Peter Diezel) with it. And it's quite heavy.
If you need to connect a bunch of junk to your amp the Herbert is very easy to use with its MIDI connectivity and different channels. Hell it's even got 2 master volumes. The blue LEDs are cool too.
My buddy's Herbert didn't convince me to trade in my 5150II with added EQ...and I get my weekly tonekicks from an old, beaten up Marshall VS8280 with a Marshall Shredmaster pedal (playing a JEM90HAM). ONE tube, lol.

Re: I Played A Diezel Herbert For 2 Hours Today!!!!!!

Did you folks also know you can run ANY combination of
power tubes...this is straight from the Herbert owners manual:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Diezel Co. installs the most reliable and best sounding tubes that are currently available in sufficient quantities. So it is possible that tube brand and tube type will change during production. You can fine-tune your Herbert by having different type and brands of tubes installed, however, it is imperative that the amp is biased properly. Herbert utilizes 6 power tubes, organized in 3 pairs with triple bias possibility. This allows use of 3 different pairs of power tubes, either the same or different types. Yes, this means that you can mix 6550’s with EL34’s, or6L6’s with KT88’s etc. Cool, no?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now,tell me a mesa or marshall that can do that....imagine the tone
variations.....I'm sure other amps do blues better, but remember were
talking about HIGH GAIN AMPS

Re: I Played A Diezel Herbert For 2 Hours Today!!!!!!

The mesa road king can do that actually. It uses both EL34's and 6L6's and with proper bias can use the 6550's and KT88's.

Very minor mods can get most tube amps to use any tubes they want actually.

Thanks!

Re: I Played A Diezel Herbert For 2 Hours Today!!!!!!

Around here a Herbert gets sent back to Germany for an update if it hasn't been sold yet, so it will have the same specs as brand(-er) new versions. If you already bought one you can always send it to Diezel at your own expense, ofcourse.

Re: I Played A Diezel Herbert For 2 Hours Today!!!!!!

The herbert lacks the magic that the V4H had in my opinion. I'd take a beat up used V4 over a brand new herbert any day but personally, for my style, the Einstein works best. It's not quite as agressive as the other two but it's the only one that can really deliver a warm vintage tone yet still be able to rip your head off if you want.... oh and it's the cheapest too.
