the thing about the TS-9 is that it is really an "overdrive" pedal rather than distortion, which I'm sure you realize. With that in mind, i think it works really well with the DS1. It will provide a warm, strong midrange sound that would complement the distortion of the DS1 very well. Also, you can run them together for a third option tonally.
Are they worth the money? Probably - they seem to sell used on ebay for nearly what they cost new, so if you hate it, you could always unload it without much of a loss.
I like Tubescreamers - they are sort of a "bedrock" tone - one that you hear alot and can always go back to for a good sound. I'd stick wiht the reissue rather than the DX if I were buying one right now. Other options would be the Boss Blues Driver - also a good pedal.
