Cool Im Getting A valveking but should i go 100w?

so im gettin a valveking as my first tube amp because it sounds great and the price is right at the moment, played thwe 50w COMBO in the shop and it sounded opretty bitchin so im going to go in and play it again on wednesday and if its still good order the 100w 212 COMBO

it will be used for home jamming with backing tracks , practicing and most probaBly some jamming with anothert guitarist + drummer,

now having nto actually plugged into the 100w im not really sure how much of a difference there is in tone at low-ish volumes for jamming and mid volumes for drummer+guitarist , ive ben reccomended the 212 over the 112 because the 1 speaker may limit the tone i get out of it ,

so

what do you guys think? \m/

Re: Im Getting A valveking but should i go 100w?

check my thread comparing the 112 and 212...

Actually, you're in luck. I just played a 212 today and it's distortion was pretty weak compared to my 112, I imagine one of the tubes must have gone out. Still, if you have the money, I'd say go for the 212. It sounded noticeably BIGGER than my 112, I can't quite explain how, but when I was going CHUGGA CHUGGA CHUGGA it's a much bigger and heavier cab and it just pushed more air and sounded more impressive. The same applied to when I was playing clean. So do I regret getting the 112? No, because the 212 is too loud for my dorm's thin walls and ***** ass roommates.

I recently got a VK212 and really like it. I keep my gain at about the mid point and there is plenty there. I use the gain boost if I want more. With it at six I can roll back my volume knob and get sweet cleans.

Re: Im Getting A valveking but should i go 100w?

Yep, I mean the 212, but disregard my comment about 212 I tried having thin/weak distortion, it was most likely a tube that went out (it's very likely, given that the 212 has no less than 4 pre-amp tubes). Either way - try before you buy! I bought the 112 from an online retailer after trying a 112 in a shop and really liking it - the great thing about buying from the online retailer (thomann.de) was that I know I'm the first one to put my hands on the amp, so none of the issues that typically plague tube amps in shops would apply to me (tubes going out, etc.).

I'd be annoyed too if my amp / speaker was buzzing.

LOL i quoted myself
there are exclaimation marks around why it annoyed me btw. The speaker as an awful buzzing noise, playing at any volume and randomly on selected notes, i cant play and A, B flat or B without this happening

Re: Im Getting A valveking but should i go 100w?

I had a VK 212 for a few weeks. It was impossibly loud - which can be good but since most of my playing is at home or the occasional jam I found it to be too much. Then there was the issue of the 1/2 second dropout when engaging the boost function. ANNOYING!

Other than that the amp was okay but I sold it and bought a Kustom instead.

most of my playing is at home too but ive heard its not so loud when u got it on class a instead of A/B

if i still like the sounds of the 50w in the shop 2moro which i probably will im ordering the 212 100w i mean i have the surroundings to cope with the loudness i think i mean my bother is a drummer and as long as im jamming lower than he plays things will be ok

also i hate kustom amps with a passion so i think most of this comes down to varying tastes in tone :P

I guess so. I wasn't planning on a Kustom but I played a '72 Coupe 212 and was blown away. I'm really happy with it. Some people seem to like those VK's and I thought I would too but in the end it just wasn't my rig. Good luck with it!

Re: Im Getting A valveking but should i go 100w?

i got my new speakers.
they make it sound a bit better, but its not the tone im looking for at all.
i dont think ill sell it, cus i dont really live where we can do this, but its far too crunchy and fizzy, very much so infact and im looking for a smoother punchier tone
