In search of a new sound - need an amp with lotsa headroom

I'm getting bored with my tight and somewhat modern sounding Mesa .50. I just seem to prefer an amp with lots of clean headroom, a 'wider' sound. So rectumfryer gain or gazillion channels are not needed, just good, big, responsive, alive, pure tone. I know I could call Diaz and get what I need, but I'm working with a limited budget so that's not an option.
Any recommendations for such a thing, or a cab with a looser, wider sound (currently running a VHT cab with Eminences)?

Try a marshall amp....ala.. a Plexi re-issue. *Tons of headroom and the 'clean' kind you're looking for. If you're lucky you can score a 1987X on Ebay or harmony central for about $600 or less.

Dont like your .50 anymore? *how much do you want for it *

I had a 50 caliber + long head a few years back and sold it. *Kinda regret that now though......its an excellent sounding amp. *

...'s a Boogie Rectifier series amp. Can't remember who started to use that name around here, was it Kevan?
Anyway, nice name for an amp.

Just how much headroom do you need? From what I've heard you'll get plenty of headroom from a Fender Twin. I haven't the slightest clue as to their prices but you should be able to find a used one.

I agree, the Fender have good headroom and have some of the best IMO clean sounds. Legacy has big headroom I've heard. I've read a couple places they've turned it up all the way and it didn't distort or bottom out.
