Is it dead? DigiDelay Digitech

Just got this over a week ago, checked website and as the fault its over 7 days its more of a carry on to return and get it fixed. Must be about 10 days old, typical.

Anyway i was using the delay then it just packed in. The line up was:

Bandit 112 ->Boss MT2->Boss Super Chorus->Boss CS -1->Digitech Digidelay-> RG550XX

I had the Chorus on and delay then the delay effect just stopped and the clean sounds started to go a bit grainy.

I figured new battery must be flat so changed it to a new one and changed line up to amp->digidelay->guitar

Now it worked for about 5 seconds before the above problem happenend again. So i unplugged, tried different cables, same again. Tried again and now the red light on pedal just stays on and no effect works or can be actviated. Sound still comes out the amp but with no effect its as if the guitar is just plugged straight into amp.

any ideas whats wrong?

Sounds like it could be dead, but before you get it replaced you might want to test it with an AC adaptor.

Sounds like you've got a broken delay pedal.

Ahh i found an old 9v adapter, and so far it seems to be working fine. I'll test it for 30mins before i get my hopes up.

If it was the battery connector part, is that a common problem?

Re: Is it dead? DigiDelay Digitech

Here's what worked well for me: Guitar » NS2 » CS3 » DS1 » MT2 » Chorus » Delay » amp.

If you tried a new battery that doesn't work, you might want to talk to the store about a replacement. Mine works fine with battery and adaptor.

Re: Is it dead? DigiDelay Digitech

nah another battery didnt work either, AC adaptor does. Will just use that, taking it back involves packing it going to post office paying for posting, they then send it to manufacturer to get it fixed then they send it back. (The downside of web ordering) So i'll have to pay a few quid and not see it for a few weeks.

thanks for the AC tip like

Re: Is it dead? DigiDelay Digitech

Well, the store has to send you an immediate replacement once they receive the pedal and figure out it truly isn't working. And np about the tip, glad that works at least

so was it a NEW battery or a DIFFERENT battery? if it was a brand new battery i would question the battery clip, if if was a different battery from another unit, then i would have that battery tested via a multimeter. sounds trivial, but it happens all the time. delay pedals are the worst, too. they require the most power and are the most testy effects that i have found...not to include the power supply specific ones like EH.

Re: Is it dead? DigiDelay Digitech

axemanrio - i checked the website and it says if its over 7 days from the order then i have to return it by parcel and pay for returning it then they ship it off to manufacturer to fix, then they send back to website shop who then send it to me. If it was faulty when i got it out of the box then they will replace it for free or money back. It actually worked for abotu 10 days so thats why I cant get a replacement. I'll just use it via the AC, ai'm alo thinking of getting one of those Boss Pedal boards anyway.

rty13ibz98 - Both batteries tested were brand new batteries, one was a Roland one that was brand new, another was a brand new Ni MH rechargable. Both batteries work fine in other pedals. So yeah sounds like a faulty battery clip/connection in the pedal.

cheers guys

Re: Is it dead? DigiDelay Digitech

The same thing has happened to my Digidelay. I wonder if this problem can be quite common.

Maybe a recent faulty batch? The one I have is a year old.

Did you end up using the AC only?

hmm could be faulty batch, or just one of those that can happen to pedals. Come to think of it i think this happened to my old old DOD Thrash Master or was it a mates pedal, it rings a bell anyway, i'll have to dig up my thrash master n find out as back then i used to use an adapter , not that that pedal got used for very long, was hideous lol

Re: Is it dead? DigiDelay Digitech

So I dug my old thrash master up and yup it has the same problem. So yeah looks like it could be a common thing for pedals, unless I'm just unlucky!

Anyway my idea of using 9v batteries to save on cables everywhere is not only looking to be a bad idea with reliability also they drain pretty fast!! (Plan was to use recharge ones after the free ones that come with pedals drain out).

So scrapping that plan I've just ordered:

Boss BCB-60 Pedal Board

Looks sturdy and reliable and can support 7 pedals, all cables included for link up pedals and is in durable case etc.

Right hopefully this will be the end of it lol

Well theres June's toy budget spent allready

Re: Is it dead? DigiDelay Digitech

Heh, well I prefer adaptors over batteries so I don't have to keep changing them. The BCB-60 is a very handy pedal board - everything goes in mine but no space for the 535Q wah that is coming It supports 6 stomp boxes though - Boss is counting the space for a tuner as the 7th.
