Is the blue Marshall 6100 head the exact same as the black?

Is the black version of the 30th 6100 made with the exact same internal parts? Will it sound the same as the 92 models in blue tolex? Or are they really different in parts and tone/sound?


I'm looking for the blue one and its matching cab though. but would like to know if the black ones are the same.

There are (2) versions of the blue 6100: the standard "limited" edition, and the "brass" edition.

The standard one is identical to the standard black 6100. The "brass" edition has a polished brass chassis and is completely hand-wired. The heads alone typically go for $1500+ (I've seen them bring up to $2K).

There is also a 6100LM which has a modded lead channel. Personally, I prefer the non-LM models. I think the 6100LMs came about a couple years after the original Anniversary models.

I've had both standard blue and black non-LM heads and loved them both. I did like my blue one better and decided to keep it, but that's just personal preference

How is the gain between the JCM2000 DSL and the LM Anniv. series? I know a guy who is selling a cheap DSL. I tried it and i liked it. But i know another guy who is selling a LM head, but i can't try it. Wich one has more gain?

I've not played through a JCM2000 unfortunately, so I'm really not sure how the two compare. I know that the 2000 does share some of the characteristics of the 6100...I'm just not sure to what extent.

I DO know that the 6100 has some pretty massive gain on Channel 2 ("Crunch"). VERY crunchy indeed! It's also the only Marshall I've ever played through that has a genuinely GOOD clean sound. Extremely nice!

LOL Not a chance I just sold my black one to a fellow Jemsiter, but the blue one is a "keeper" for the time being. I'd wanted one since they came out and finally picked one up- love it!

I regret selling mine a long time ago........i actually had one! But i think i used the wrong cab with it (carvin 4x12).....i wasn't satisfied with my distorted tones. It was too muddy sounding. But it had the best clean sound i've ever heard, and i liked the switch at the far right of the amp that gave the tone some raunchiness to it. Like more fuzz or sizzle. I loved the crunch channel too............it was great for blues. and jazz.

So if you ever decide to part with it!!!! Send her my way man!

Jem777 do you know how much a mint blue marshall 30th 6100 half stack (head and cab) is worth these days?

I found someone who has a friend that has one, and he's asking me what i'd pay for it, but i have no clue how much a mint one is.

Any help would be appreciated

I've seen half a dozen sets go for between $1400-1600 if it's just the standard blue Anniversary model. I've seen a few of the 6960A cabs go for $600-700 alone as well. There was a full stack that went for over $2K awhile back as well, but it was still brand new in the original shipping cartons.

what was the ending price of that 1/2 stack on evilby btw? the last i saw it, it was goin for $1460 or something like that.

Sounds like he would ask a very high price for his...........i know another one will pop up on evilbay soon. I'm just waiting for it.

So why do you like the blue one better than the black one? Would you say that they both give you the same tone quality? Or does one sound significantly better than the other??

I guess if they both sound the same and only look different in color.....then i'd settle for a black one. But I'd prefer the blue one.

I'm pretty sure that the difference between the blue one I have and the black one that I just sold is strictly in my head/ears. They're the exactly same amps/circuits, only in different colored cabinets. That's the only difference.

I'm not sure what the 1/2 stack ended at, but I think it was around $1600. I wouldn't pay any more than that- there's just no need to.

I was looking to get a 6100 when the TSL100 was introduced in 1998. Little did I know at first that the TSL was the replacement. Having tried the 6100 in the past and knowing its features pretty well, I was really into it. When I tried the TSL100, I was a very happy camper. The TSL IMO has a wider variety of sounds. It also has a few less preamp tubes and weighs significantly less. The TSL has a lot more controls on the front panel but is very logically laid out and easy to use. The TSL doesn't have the MIDI capability (for simultaneous switching of other MIDI devices) that the 6100 had but since I don't primarily use multi-FX units or other MIDI-loaded guitar processors, this wasn't a factor for me. The dual effects loops with a parallel/series mix control (each) on the TSL is a major plus. The VPR is a nice function as it simulates a power reduction but doesn't actually take any power away from the output stage. I'm stopping here as I could go on all day about it. The main reason I went with the 6100 was because of the MIDI capabilities. The weight doesn't really bother me- it's a small price to pay for flexibility and tone
