Re: Jem7vwh Gold Plate Wear

happens on most of them, nothing to be alarmed about it, wish ibanez would start plating them better though cuz it's about the one thing from pushing the 7vwh higher on my list of jems to still get.

Re: Jem7vwh Gold Plate Wear

i dont think i would want it chrome because it then starts to look like the cheaper 555 (i think) an the white on gold it what makes this guitar the best looking guitar in the world (maybe)

You can minimise the loss of the gold by wiping your sweat off the guitar when you put it away but there is no remedy.

That's right. I always keep a cloth with my guitars, wipe the strings down to make them last longer and of course I wipe the hardware too, to prevent or at least minimise corrosion.

Re: Jem7vwh Gold Plate Wear

when i got the jem the trem was a little worn already but has got worse,so it cannot be re-plated,new trem i suppose,or maybe just replace the string locking pieces as these are the worst..

A compete new trem is about £160, string blocks are about £8 each.

The gold plated one may cost a bit more, you'll have to call your local guitar place and ask them, see what they have and can get.

Maybe your wiping it down too much??? I keep hearing about this problem, but I've never had it myself. I've had mine for almost 6 years now. 2000 model. The gold plating is still perfect. No wear at all. And trust me, she's had plenty of play time. My hands dont sweat so I guess I'm lucky there. Anyhow....I may have just realized something. I hardly EVER wipe down the trem. Never really after playing. (unless something gets spilled on it) Other than that, only when I'm cleaning / restringing. That's is! So maybe there's you answer. Don't wipe it soo much.

Wipe = wear.

Only makes sense. Or just be a little more tender with it

Thanks, but I don't have the corrosion problem, was just giving advice to the author of this thread.

I wipe, not rub harshly, just a brief wipe to remove any sweat or natural oils that skin will leave on the hardware that could lead to corrosion, and it has kept the guitars that I have owned from new, in prestine condition!

lol...I noticed that after I wrote it. Anyhow, he'll see it

Really, I think people are OVER wiping the gold and it wears. As far as other traditional platings (gun / black, etc) they seem tougher and it is not a problem. But I agree with keeping everything clean. If you've seen any of my threads you know I'm anal about it

Just go easy on the gold folks

Some people are just more corrosive than others!
I don't seem to disolve gold myself! However my mate has real problems with his bridge unless he keeps it cleaned.
