JMP-1 Help with Midi

I have just bought the JMP-1 and want to use it with my Boss GX700. I am fairly thick when it comes to midi and stuff so I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me how to link these up. The way I want to use it is use the clean and distortion sounds from the Marshall and just use my effects from the Boss such as reverbs, delays and harmoniser etc. Also I use the Behringer FCB1010 to control patch changes and how would I link this up too?

I would be grateful if anyone knows the best way to do this.

Re: JMP-1 Help with Midi

FCB Midi out>Boss Midi In
Boss Midi Thru>JMP Midi In

Then run your audio lines with the boss in the loop of the JMP and that should do it.

Your boss may not have a midi thru (I don't know for sure) but if it doesn't there should be a setting that allows it to route the signals for the JMP to the midi out...in which case you'd apply that setting and use the midi out to run to the midi in of the JMP.

Download the manual for the FCB controller from behringer and read it cover to cover. It walks you thru things pretty smoothly, but it can be daunting for midi neophytes.

Someone please correct me if I've steered him wrong...this is why I gave up on the midi thing. I had it working but I felt trapped by my settings. Good choice on the FCB though, same one I used and it did a good job, although you can't toggle effects with it, but you could set the expression pedals to transmit control change messages to link to the effects you wanted to control within a patch for the boss unit. Clear as Mud?

Re: JMP-1 Help with Midi

Thanks for the help. It is changing patches ok although I have another little problem.

When I change the patches it is fine until it comes to patch 4 on the jmp-1.

What is happening is the GX700 is skipping back to patch 2 instead of going up to patch 5 and I've tried different settings but cannot get it to work. This is what's happening:

Jmp1 patch----------------GX700 patch

00 ------------------------1
01 ------------------------2
02 ------------------------3
03 ------------------------4
04 ------------------------2

Again thanks for the help.

It sounds like your midi mapping is set diffrently, that is when you map out patch changes to go to different presets, so say you select 1 on your controller, you may have mapped out the JMP to go to patch 12 but your FX unit to go to 7 and maybe another unit to 3. Just change your mapping settings.

I don't really understand how you do this. I have tried changing the midi mapping settings but it just seems to be getting more out of control. I have tried changing the program on the GX700 but the JMP-1 keeps on over-riding it.

Finally got it sorted. I just reset both units and everything is working fine now.

Re: JMP-1 Help with Midi

Just one more question. Will I be able to control some of the parameters on the GX700 with this configuration such as volume control and wah etc. With the expression pedals.

Re: JMP-1 Help with Midi

Yes, you have 4 "assignables" per preset, plus you can assign a CC# for the Wah on the GX700.

For the JMP-1 have a look at: http://jmp-editor.mattzick.com .
