JSX, Supersonic, or F-50??

Alright ive been debating over the Supersonic and F-50 for the last couple of weeks on other forums and such and still don't know which one to get....but now i have heard some clips of the JSX and really like that also just making things harder...

It all started when i heard the Supersonic at GC and really liked it, then I decided that the supersonic might now have enough gain for metal so i decided to look into other amps where i found the F-50...Some people would say get the SS some would say F-50...i guess the F-50 is probably going to have a better dirty channel because thats what mesas are known for but some people say the cleans are better than the supersonic which i find hard to believe because i LOVED the cleans when i heard the supersonic and thats what fender is known for.

I have recently been looking into the JSX and it seems like a very versatile amp as well, and I really love the looks too. I also like the fact that i will not have to use a pedal and never run out of gain with it. I don't really know much about cabs but im guessing with a good one its going to end up being a lil more expensive than the Supersonic and mesa combos.

I cant really say if i use cleans or distortion more but I do know I want a really good lead channel and the cleans have to be good too. I play classic rock, hard rock, metal, and some fingerpicking stuff....no country. I guess most of the stuff doesnt need ridiculous gain except for the metal.

Whaddya guys think? can you help me out with my choice?

p.s. ive never heard the JSX or Mesa in person

I'm biased and really recommend the JSX. It'll easily do all the styles you want. Imo, it's the best sounding amp I've owned and I include various Mesas, peaveys, a cornford and an engl. I have a JSX and run it through a 2 x 12 Cornford cab and it just sounds so sweet.

ya i think i really like it, how much does a good cab usually cost?

what are some good options besides the one you have?

how much would you say the cab changes the sound of the amp?

Any descent cab loaded with V30's should sound fine. I'm not sure how much a good cab would cost over there, but I paid around £200-£250 for mine.

No point going off MP3 clips - get yourself down to a couple of decent music stores where you can actually hear the amp at a decent volume for a while, otherwise you have no idea in reality what it sounds like. For the last ten years I have been a Mesa Boogie player, but while I can and will wholeheartedly recommend Boogies to you, it really means absolutely nothing until you actually plug a guitar into the amp and try it for yourself!

supersonic = great for low volume amp. good clean, gain has PLENTY of dirt, more than enough.. compressed, smooth sounding lead channel. Jsx = clear, cutting amp, not as compressed, not as smooth, diff type of sound..

never played the mesa..

where will you be using this amp, and what for

Re: JSX, Supersonic, or F-50??

Darin,

i guess im not sure exactly what tone im searching for.....i really like all of this kids tones, especially this one, which is pretty smooth, but all this kids tones are amazing and so is his playing which contributes to it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5gJJ7K1PJg&feature=user

i guess i like some heavy tones too for example Metallica-Eye of the Beholder but it really doesn't matter to me that it nails it, just as long as I can get decently close to it and make it sound good....i think ill get over the heavy distortion and metal stuff sooner than later im not really picky about nailing the tone of it either

by what i just said i think i helped myself figure it out because the supersonic is smoother but still i want more opinions

the super sonic is def versatile.. you could get away with playing just about everything, especially at a house volume.. but if you want a balls to the wall metal sound for LIVE, you dont want the FSS.. but like you said, it will be for playing.. given that info, I would pick the fender, cuz it sounds best at a lower volume.

Re: JSX, Supersonic, or F-50??

the fss has 'just' as much gain as you need for noodly playing. thing is, when you have both gain knobs pegged, your thinkin, I could use a tiny bit more. this is where pedal fun comes in. this weekend I had a bb preamp and a bd-2 to use. I tried both, and went with the bb preamp. the bd-2 sound 90% like the bbpre. I have the bbpre on loan and will not be buying one soon. the bd-2 with the gain all the way off works well. it dirtys up the clean channe without thinning it out, and give a tad of saturation to the already gainy lead channel. the fss would benefit from making the 2nd gain knob swithable. I will probably find a way to make this mod. the fss has 2 gain knobs, I like the 1st one all the way up and the 2nd all the way off for most situatuins, and both up for lead, plus the addition of the 2nd adds a wee bit of level. that would make a great switchable lead channel.

combos almost always sound thinner than cab (imo). so I will usually have my carvin 2x12 along. I don't think fender spent enough effort making the fss combo sound as good as it could. maybe that's just the nature of combos. if you can, run a power amp and cab for garage band jammin with live drummer. for everday average guy livingroom jammin. the fss fits the bill nicely.

Re: JSX, Supersonic, or F-50??

Well I decided to go with the Supersonic.... its what I wanted in the first place anyway

I bought a mint one off **** but of course I wasn't paying attention and the seller doesn't accept paypal which is a joke considering he has 120 + feedbacks...WHO DOESN'T HAVE PAYPAL THESE DAYS?!?!

Now I guess you guys could just tell me how good the amp is so im not stuck with regret from not buy the mesa or peavey haha
