Just got a Fender CyberTwin - WOW! *Buh-bye Boogie...

I'm blown away by the versatility and overall tone of this amp! *I got mine directly from the local Fender rep-and it's one of the first 25 made. *All I can say is the Tremoverb is going down the road-this is THE amp for gigging! *It's solid-state, but with a tube preamp. *Amazing! *Tube warmth and tone, but with solid-state weight (about 50 pounds) and volume (130 watts). *The FX are unbelievable! *Great wah tones that can be controlled via a volume pedal, harmonizer/pitch shifter, KILLER Vibratone/Leslie program-it's got everything! *I got it Saturday, and was confident enough to play a gig the next day with no additional pedals or anything. *If anybody gets a chance to check a CyberTwin out, definitely do so! *

Congratulations!!!

You mention the Tremoverb combo... can the CyberTwin get that high-gain Dual Rectifier sound of the Tremoverb? And how would you measure the High-gain sounds of the CyberTwin? Enough for metal?

Thanks,
Armindo

I put the Cyber Twin and the Tremoverb side-by-side and was able to dial in a tone that was much closer to the Boogie than I'd expected. *You can choose from about 2 dozen different amp circuits, and some are VERY high gain. *Definitely does NOT sound solid-state! *I'd say that there are some high-gain settings that would be hot enough to satisfy any metal head. * *

Sounds cool Chris, where was your gig at? *If they would only make a head version of the amp that looked a little more LA than Nashville.

Wow! I definetely have to check it. I always wanted a versatille amp that would let me go from pristine clean to furious distortion (Metallica's ...And Justice, and beyond that). And if it sounds "tubey-enough", i would definetely try it.

Hey Roger! *The gig was a wedding down in Littleton-played with a classic rock band-not brain surgery, but a ton o' fun! *Gave me a chance to try out just about every type of preset on the amp-surf, country, blues, Zep-rock, etc. *Definitely won me over! * A head version should be on the way as well-according to the Fender rep, Fender has plans to hopefully diversify the CyberTwin technology into a head/stack configuration, as well as into a few different sized combos. *I've read the reviews on Harmony Central as well, and it seems taht ever negative response is from somebody who just tried one out at a Guitar Center of somewhere similar. *It truly is an amp that takes some time to fine-tune....but it's well worth the time!

All I can say is I'm glad guitarists are starting to get with these combined amp/effects things, because *more manufacturers are starting to make them - and good ones too. I've always been a fan, ever since I saw (and later bought) a Johnson Millenium. Way I see it is why have loads of old stompboxes, with the hassle of setting up, cables, batteries etc ? And (this'll get the replies pouring in!) I don't care if it doesn't sound exactly like a Mesa this or Vox that, because I've never heard 'em! To me good tone is good tone, and for flexibility, I can't see myself using any other sort of amp...

I agree with you. I would love to have a Boogie, a Marshall, a Fender, a Soldano, a Bogner (the list goes on...) but i don't have the space and the money that would allow me to do this. Also, i just play and it would be ridicullous to have all this gear (unless i was rich!). But i've never heard live the most part of the gear, so i'm not a purist in terms of tone. "It doesn't sound quite like a Dual Rect", or "Is not as warm as a tube amp". I wonder how many of us can tell the difference between the originals and one of these modelling amps in a song. As along as it sounds great, it is great tone! If it sounds great in it own right, it shouldn't be put down just because it doesn't sounds like the real thing. It's close, it sounds good, great!

Personnally, i find this new breed of modelling amps/effects boxes a godsend. I'm very tempted to buy a Roland VG-88 or a POD Pro (I know, very different units...). For a guy just like me who can't afford or justify having a waal full of real amps, miking them, etc., i find these boxes perfect. They have great tone in its own right, and if they sound close to a Dual React, great!

Just my thought...

And i've never heard most of the gear in person, so i can't tell the difference either between a real one or a fake one! Of course i can distinguish between a Marshall or a Boogie tone, but in the context of a song i would be not so shure it it was the real thing or a modelling amp producing the tone.

I'm shure there are many different points of view regarding this question. But for me, just for play at home, recording at home for my own fun, having one of these babies is the best thing i could do. And yes, i would love to have a Dual Rect to do my chuncka-chuncka. But would that be pratical? I guess not. For that money i can have another amp or modelling box that has a lot of great tones on its own, is versatille, allows me to record at night without having to crank it and miking it. And if sounds almost like a Boogie/Marshall/etc., great!

I myself have always been skeptical of modeling amps, even though the Johnson and Line 6 amps are great products-they still just didn't quite do it for me. *After playing around with the CyberTwin though, and realizing that each amp "model" was actually, in essence, re-routing the signal of the amp throught the same series of transistors, caps, etc as the original...it really does make a difference. *It's a true godsend for me because I no longer have to lug my Matchless or the Tremoverb around-and no more pedalboard! *Everything I need fits into the back of the amp-plus it's much lighter than any of my other amps. *It's great for any type of music. *After having had it for a week, I went to an audition with it and got the gig-I can't help but think that the versatility and sheer great tone lent a hand in that. *I've finally given in to technology, and I don't regret it a bit.!

So Fender got it right this time, huh? Hmmm...I think I won't move to Marshalls anymore! I've always been a fan of Fender amps, always owned only Fender amps and I'll defnitely try one of these.

BTW, how much did you pay for it?

I got mine for $840, which is a killer deal. *But, I got mine directly from the Fender rep, and it was a demo. *One of the first 25 made (like that matters!). *$1150 or so seems to be the average selling price, and list is $1699 (with footswitches, casters and a cover). *

Congrats, I'm glad you have liked it. I have read too many negative comments about that amp at harmony-central.com. I'm positively surprised that this technology delivers what it had promissed. Now, it can only get better. Enjoy it!

Just got a Fender CyberTwin

Gotta go against the flow here...

Tuesday we got a Cyber Twin in at work. *I was the first person to play it. *Plugged in a custom shop 60's relic strat and went nuts. *I was UNimpressed. *I thought a lot of the effects added too much noise (and I hate using noise reduction units). *I was unhappy about how the preset patches have such vast differences in master volumes (I had to constantly adjust it). *And overall, I thought it didn't have a lot of punch to it. *Not a TERRIBLE amp, but nothing I would plug in twice. *

Personally, I still think the Peavey Transformer 212 is the best modelling amp for the money. *Especially the 212 because you get the true stereo effects. *Just a thought...
