Just picked up some Elixir 9's

hey all

after playing my friends guitar that had elixir nano web non rusts on them, i decided to try em out. so i bought some yesterday, and i only ended up by putting the first two strings on. but i noticed that they had a lot more vibrant, colorful sound to them than the d'addrio's i had on before... anyone notice this? it almost sounds tinny, but i haven't broken them in yet....

The sound will change after a few day's methinks. I love elixer's, but I can't justify shelling out $10 for a pair of strings!

I can. The set of Elixirs I just took off my UV maybe two weeks ago, I put on just before Christmas. Sure, the upfront cost is higher, but when I finally broke a high E and needed to pull them, they still sounded, if not fresh, no worse than week-old D'addarios would.

yeah, my friend said they lasted him 6 months in the least. i'm hoping this strings will break in tho, right now they're sounding kinda tinny, but i just put them on.

btw, i'm getting a lil bit of buzzing from the frets because i hit the strings hard. does this affect my sound?? what can i do to stop it?

They are nice, i think you get a better tone at least for performances out of the daddarios, but on my acoustics and players elixirs are the way to go.

I don't hate elixirs, I think you give up SOME tone (you have to with a coat on the strings... nothings perfect) but they make up for it with solid tone with longevity. The tone doesn't diminish nearly as much as a regular string does and they last a ton longer.

Re: Just picked up some Elixir 9's

Hmm does anyone know how a set of elixer 9s's tension compares to a D'Addario set of 9s? Basically, I'm asking how much my bridge will sink or rise with the different tension of a different set.

Re: Just picked up some Elixir 9's

Well their should be measurements on the elixir packing or website at least. I wouldnt imagine most non luthiers would know this right off the top of their head.

Daddarios are readily available but im too lazy to look them up :P.
