Question

Kahler Hybrids

Hey, Do Kahler Hybrid tremolos just drop into a OFR route without any modifications?

Thanks

Re: Kahler Hybrids

No. Why would you think they do?

Do a Google search for "Kahler Hybrid" for the complete skinny on this bridge.

Re: Kahler Hybrids

Well there website seems to imply it would. It says it would only need a top-route, but do they mean on top of a normal trem route or isnt a non-recessed Floyd just a top-route?

Re: Kahler Hybrids

A top route means that the trem cavity is ONLY taken out of the TOP of the guitar. Floyds require a full route for the spring cavity. That's why there are backplates on Floyd-equipped guitars.

Top-mounted tremolos (Kahlers) have the springs directly underneath the trem unit itself - there's no deep trem block involved. Check out Kahler's site. The pictures will explain themselves

Re: Kahler Hybrids

Kahler cam trems require a 2" wide x 2" long x 0.5" deep route for the cam block.

If you want to put one on a guitar that has a recessed Floyd type route, it will have to be filled in (at least on top) so the bridge will have something to sit on top of.

If the guitar has a non-recessed Floyd, you don't have to fill anything in but:
1) You will still have to route out the top of the guitar to accommodate the cam block.
2) There will be small hole on either side of the Kahler's baseplate from the original Floyd trem route (unless you fill them in of course).

Re: Kahler Hybrids

Why do you want to go from a floyd to a Kahler anyway? I don't think there is much of an advantage with either one....

Re: Kahler Hybrids

OK guys I understand, thanks! And, it was just a question, seeing I thought the hybrid series was made to be a quick replacement for an Floyd, but obviously some amount of work has to be done.

oh, well in my opinion i think you should get an ofr for it the kahler seems like to much trouble to put on a guitar already routed for an ofr
