Killswitch as a pedal

Hello. I've tried googling for this, and checking the posts. It seems it would be simple to build a killswitch pedal (I don't want to drill in my 77brmr), but I've heard they make your rig noisier. I wonder if anyone has done this, or would know if it could work, and not buzz, or pop? I've also seen that you could wire it into the input jack, but I don't really want to try that either.

Thanks

I've made a volume-cut box that could essentially do the same thing,if you lowered the knob all the way down. It's true bypass, was easy to build and doesn't screw with your signal, so anyone that told you that is full of s$&*.

I don't use both channels on my amp so I'll leave one at zero volume. That way, if I have to change guitars I hit the switch on the amp and, Bob's your Uncle, no noise!

Do you think that could work with a switch in place of the volume knob? I know virtually nothing about electronics. Let me know what you think, and if you could tell me what I would need.

Thanks!

Here' the schematic that I followed to make mine. If you keep the volume pot truned all the way down, it'll do what you need, AND if you wanna use it to be able to consistantly roll your guitar volume back to the same spot, each time, hands-free (which is what I use it for, effectively giving me the clean tones out of my single channel amp), you can do that, too.

Re: Killswitch as a pedal

Thanks for the diagram! My intent is to have a pedal I can fix on my guitar body and use it like Morello or Buckethead. Could that pedal work for that, or would I need a different switch? (sorry-I'm don't know much in this area!)

Re: Killswitch as a pedal

Hit the TU-2 and your rig will shut up.

Unless (ad I do) you hook it up on the volume pedal's direct out.

Re: Killswitch as a pedal

Sorry, thought you were looking for a pedal unit.

If you wanna do it, in your guitar, all you need to do is run a toggle switch between the center lug and the ground lug on your guitar's volume pot. When switched "on" it'll short to ground, killing your signal. MUCH easier than the pedal I described. Just a note, though: If you wanna use this as a sort of effect, it may be better to use a momentary, normally open, switch, like Buckethead does.

Re: Killswitch as a pedal

Hey. I did want a pedal, but I didn't want to drill my BRMR. The only thing I found about doing it as a pedal (which they attached to the guitar by velcro or something) was wiring a spst switch to two quarter inch inputs. It seemed like that may create buzz, I guess I should just try it and find out for myself...

I thought about that, but it locks until you push it again. If I had a momentary switch it would be quicker. Thanks though!

Re: Killswitch as a pedal

O.k. I wired up the pedal last night. Just two mono jacks and one switch. I didn't put it through my effects chain yet, but there was no noise this way, and no pop when I hit the switch. I'm changing to toggle, though because the push button doesn't work well.

Re: Killswitch as a pedal

I use an A/B switcher, except I only have one amp plugged into it so when I step on it the signal is cut off.
