Krank Rev Jr

I've been looking for a good lower wattage amp and I read a pretty good review on this in guitar world. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it and could post a quick review. I'm also looking for some good sound clips so if anyone owns one and wants to post something that would be great. Thanks.

i wouldnt have too much faith in krank amps

i heard they get run really hot and arent all that great, fuses blow, tubes fry, etc.....

if u want some little hot rodded tone like that get one of the tweed carvins, im not sure what line its under now adays but those always got some good old low power growl and smooth cleans

I'll definitely look into the carvin and see if theres a place to demo it around here. But i have heard a lot about how reliable kranks are so that surprises me to hear. Does anyone here have any experience with a krank being unreliable?

my buddy in la we were in a bad together and i used to drum, and he had a randall, and then bounced to a krank, and always would have weird things like volume shifting...he got it repaired, and then he had to play it for a while hard untill the trans got got enough and then the normal volume would come back...then years later after he got a 5150 and went to buy a krankenstein and he said it was the worst buy of his life, paid a person to rebuild the 5150 and sold the krank, and it was in great condition, but he said it wasnt a balanced tone

Re: Krank Rev Jr

Any other suggestions for a good small amp. Something thats easy to carry around and has a large variety of tones. I don't want to spend more than around 700. I just returned a Mini Colossal, didn't get quite hard enough for me I want something that can be a little more metal.

An Engl Screamer combo might suit you but I don't know how much they go for in the States.

Re: Krank Rev Jr

have u ever concidered getting like a tonelab?? maybe get a small pa setup, or like a powered pa....my neighbor friend with the jems has a old sound city he used, but he had a 2120 artist and pugs it into a keyboard pa amp, single 12inch peaker with its own built in amp and line mixer in it...im sure that would be way less, very portable, and great clean tone with modeling on the tonelab

Re: Krank Rev Jr

The Engl Screamer sounds pretty impressive, but it is a little steep around $1000 USD. I also wish it had an EQ for both channels. I also don't think i need that much power. I'll have to keep looking, but thanks. Any other ideas?

Re: Krank Rev Jr

I saw in a magazine recently that there is a new Rev Jr that is footswitchable. That would be a huge bonus.

Re: Krank Rev Jr

That Krank Jr is actually tempting, for a small micro stack there's a few really good youtube videos of it that sound really really good. I wouldn't discount it just because it's krank, even though I am not a krank fan, this still looks and sounds really cool and I want one!

There is a new Krank Rev Jr that is footswitchable channels. It also comes with the foot switch in the box. I didn't get that one though I got the original. I am sure that they can't sound that much different from each other. I will try and give you guys some insight on it once it arrives.

Re: Krank Rev Jr

I tried the Rev Jr and it was too dirty a sound. You cannot get a decent clean sound out of it. The only way to get a clean sound is to turn down your guitar volume. Some people like that but the amp does not have any headroom whatsoever. I like my amps to be able to sound clean and dirty, not just dirty. Even when you are not cranking up the amp, the sound can't really get clean.

However, if you don't care about having a clean tone and just want it to distort or overdrive, then the amp is really cool. When I cranked it up, it did have a really savory drive to it although a tiny bit on the buzzy side. JMO. It could have been just that one I tried.

Re: Krank Rev Jr

I dont need a clean tone. I only bought this to play dethklok covers and heavy metal. Plus my legacy has an insane clean tone.
