Legacy Cabinet Voiced Out

I tried to use the voiced line out of my Legacy today, and I have mixed feelings about it.

First, I recorded a few riffs using the cab out, but I had effects on in my dig 8-track. *Sounded pretty decent.

Then, I bypassed the FX in the 8-track and it sounded like a distortion pedal through a pair of PC speakers.

Kind of weird. *Can anyone else share their experiences?

Legacy Cabinet Voiced Out

In my adventures I have found that the "cab-voiced" line out on any amp has left a lot to desire. *I don't mind using them for backing or doubled tracks, but they just don't cut it for something up front in the mix. *This seems especially true with high-gain signals, but they are sometimes tolerable with clean tones. *For that reason, I have not used the voiced line out on my Legacy, so I can't tell you about it specifically. *I have had good luck with Line6 stuff going to tape and their speaker sim is not too bad. *Previous to that I used an ADA microcab which workes quite well. *(Plug... *it's for sale too...) *All I use now to record is the Pod Pro. *It gives me a good recording tone and keeps the neighbors happy at 2am.

Legacy Cabinet Voiced Out

I am willing to bet that the voiced-line out on the Legacy is nowhere close to having the modeling circuitry in the Line 6 etc. I don’t know how they are doing it, but I’ll bet it doesn’t involve a single chip. It’s probably just a basic line out with a couple transistors to tweak the EQ.

At any rate, it’s not a very energetic effort at speaker emulation. I’ll stick with the real cabs.
