Legacy distortion trouble...

Ok as some of you may know I got my Legacy VL100 head over xmas and today my Behringer cab arrived. I set everything up and turned on the head.... the clean is f*ing awesome!!! When I went to the distortion channel I was horrified... the distortion is whiney and nasty sounding... I mainly get the nasty sound when I play up on the higher notes but when I play power chords n such it's ok. I have the volume up at about 1.5 and the wattage is at 50 but it still sounds bad. I first thought maybe one of the tubes was messed up but they look fine to me... and the clean still sounds awesome... help

turn it up a bit. See what happens. Most tube amps aren't really "happy" below three.

If I put it above 3 I'm gonna go deaf . You were right, I cranked the Legacy for a little bit and it sounds sweet... can't play loud all the time though and I still haven't found the perfect settings.

There have been a lot of problems with the marshall powerbreak apparently, some users even recorded it heating up to breaking point.

The THD hotplate and Koch box are ment to be the best, and are both similarly priced, I've heard better reviews of the Koch than the THD btw.

IF you got new (not used before) cab, give speakers some time to break. You will need to play at higher volumes though.

You may want to try your Legacy out with different cabs. You'll be amazed at how different they all sound.

I have a Legacy head I'm probably going to be selling. It's been sitting for
two years because it's too damn loud!!

I was going to get the Hott Plate, but I realized that I can do 90% of the
sounds I want to do with my vintage Magnatone tube amp, my fleet of
DS-1 pedals, and my Piranha.

I read somewhere that the amp sounds best when all the knobs are
on 7-7-7-7. I'm not sure if that's true, but the Legacy for sure sounds
best cranked! I just have no need for that volume.

The cab's speakers have sort of broken in now that I have had it for awhile and it sounds much better. Holy crap though the Legacy has so much bass. I usually have it set at around 3 or 4 now . I get to turn up the Legacy pretty loud(around 5 or 6) during the day and I get some great tone. I notice it has a real crunch to it and less of a saturated lead tone that you usually hear in Vai's stuff.... he must use his EQ.... but I love the crunchy tone I get. It's great for Satch stuff :P
