Legacy sounds

hey everyone, I'm finally in the market for a good amp, and I'm not sure what to choose. I was looking at Soldano (something like a Lucky 13, I'm not going for a super high gain half stack), but then I started thinking about Vai's Legacy amps. And once I saw the combo (not to mention the very friendly price tag!), I got really interested. But I was wondering, how is the clean channel on that thing? See, I'd rather go with a Fender or a Peavey Classic 50 and boost it with an OD pedal rather than get a super high gain amp that has a sucky clean channel. But I'm really interesting in the Legacy at this point, and if it has a nice clean, I'm sold pretty much. I'd need the clean for jazz sounds, funky sounds, pretty sounds...Fender clean tone is my first choice but I want more gain. So put it this way...I don't need a clean that can do Ballerina 12/24 and not be able to pull off jazz. So can the Legacy do that, or should I look into other stuff? Thanks.

the Legacy clean channel is to die for. It's awsome, turn that thing up to 10 thing won't be busted. Dirty channel is awsome too. Sounds like the Legacy is something you'd enjoy, go to Carvin's website and check out a soundclip of Vai playing the Lagacy.

yeah, I thought of that and I just listened to it. Wow, I do like the way it sounds. Especially the way the lead channel sounds, I could definately work with that. The clean channel sounds really nice too. I'm just wondering if it can sound any fatter than that. I'm assuming it can depending on pickups and such because the Evo neck has always been really trebly. Lol...don't you love how Steve says in the end of the demo that if you don't go out any buy the amp, he will find you and beat you till you're dead? Well...I wouldn't want Steve to kill me, so I think I may take his advice, the thing sounds great.

yeah the clean channel can definetly get warmer, Steve's using Evolution pickups which can be kinda on the bright side, plus the bright switch on the amp acually works (I've heard so many amps where the bright switch does NOTHING!) but yeah the Legacy is a darker sounding amp. Vai uses kinda bright sounding guitar/pickup combo with a darker amp to kinda balance everything out.
