Lets say you won a contest and..............................

you were given the head or preamp/poweramp of your dreams(it has to be real) and you can buy as many effects as you want EXCEPT DISTORTION! The head or preamp/poweramp you choose will be the last distortion unit you will ever own! what would it be? Oh and like I said its the last amp(distortion unit) you will ever own!!!!!!

I'd have either Denis Cornell or some chaps I know who build amps make me something that has about 20 or so distortion pedals built in.

Otherwise I'd just pick the amp with the highest resale value and get rid of it.

An ADA MP-1 preamp, with an all tube, low wattage power amp that I could crank the hell out of to really get the tubes glowing. Stick a BBE in between them, and I'm good.

Oh man, decisions, decisions. This sounds like my "Lessons in Limitation" thread. Any one of these options would make me die a happy man. At this stage in my life, it would be...

Preamp/Poweramp & Heads (i.e. the "core" tone)
1. Genz-Benz El Diablo head
2. Diezal Herbert
3. Rocktron Prophesy/Mesa 2:100
4. Rocktron Prophesy/Marshall 9200
5. Mesa Road King
6. Engl Savage 120 SE

Effects (i.e. the "extras"):
BBE Sonic Maximizer
Eventide Eclipse
...these would be the "must haves".

Either a Vetta II, Mesa Road King, or Deizel VH-4.

I haven't had the oppunity to play many of the higher end amps (bogner, engl, etc), no one around here stocks them. but i'd probbaly go with a mark IIc+ w/ 4x12 traditional cabs

I guess I'd just grab an Egnater MOD100 and call it a day. Tone-wise I think I'd rather have a blackface Twin or an old Marshall, but if I was going to be stuck with it by this evil contest (that sounds like a contract with Satan, btw) I suppose I should get something with a warranty.

I'd need to spend more time with a Road King before committing, but it's the only rectifier I've played that I really liked, so far.
