I can't speak for the 550, but I own an MPX200 and it's ok. It's not great. I've read a lot about the MPX series and the concensus seems to be that they are good units, and certainly good for the money. You get the "Lexicon sound" and lots of usable presets.

But everyone seems to think that the PCM series is thousands of times better and worth the extra money.

Additionally, if I could do things over again I would be a KORG or a TC Electronics unit instead. They're just more flexible.

Thumbs up

I currently have one in the studio. Had it about a year now.
It's got different architecture than the 200 or 100 with true stereo patchs.
I especially like patch #5 -reverb, patch #126- echo/delay, and patch #175- detune/fatten. Very pro-sounding unit. You've also got about 100 user presets you build yourself.

Hope that helps!

i've been looking for a nice digital multieffects unit. i've been staying away from TC only becuase the only decent affordable unit has gotten pretty mixed feelings on reliability. The Harmony-Central reviews on the 550 were a lot better than the 200, of course it's hard to tell how many HC reviews are valid. What Korg rackmounted multieffects are out there??

The KORG stuff I'm referring to is all used stuff now, but it basically has the same functionality as the Lexicon- focus on reverbs and delay, with flanging, chorusing and modulation also.

The best one is the SDD-3000 which was The Edge's choice for studio recording from 1984 all the way up to the newest album. But since The Edge uses it, it goes for $400-700 on auction.

Because they are getting hard to find, and expensive, he switched over to using TC Electronics 2290s on the road.

While I think those are great pieces of equipment, they aren't cheap either.

So I wouldn't try to discourage you from Lexicon, but there are definately competitors who might give you more for your money.
