Line 6 Tone Port
I was just reading a
guitar mag
and read an article about the Tone Port by Line 6. Does anybody have one? On paper it looks great. Comes with heaps of add ons and is quite useful as a minor recording tool and song writing aid, all at a very cheap price. I would love to hear about any problems or issues people have had with it. If not I am going to buy one!
Cheers,
Wolfram

Re: Line 6 Tone Port
Ive had mine for about six months now. I would rate it as a 7 out of 10 for the following reasons. The biggest problem Ive had is a latency issue that comes and goes. This latency is sometimes almost a sec which will drive you absolutely insane when trying to record. It comes and goes without any kind of pattern. I checked out this issue online and its common and not a software fix but a hardware issue itself with the unit. Also, its USB which isnt that great for data transfer rates. Im using a 2.8 GHZ P4 HT system with a gig of ram and an Antec 480 W trueblue ps, so its not my system.
Heres what I like about it, its easy to use, sounds decent for the money, and has a built in player for playing backing tracks. Its good for practicing, but for high quality recording really isnt practical. Basically I use it now for tuning, playing over backing tracks, and recording to MS sound recorder and then transfering the files to
fruity loops
. The optional rifftracker software is cool and sounds pretty good, but the latency issue makes it just about useless. All around its just a good practicing tool.

Re: Line 6 Tone Port
I love my Toneport.
Also had mine about 6 months. I have a strange feeling that guy in the post above is talking about the Guitarport, since the Toneport doesn't come with the Rifftracker software, or have a built in
backing track
player. My Toneport has no latency issues whatsoever, and there is an option to adjust latency as well, if it is a problem.
Toneport is excellent for recording, really easy to use, plus the sounds are great (imo, though I don't own a 'proper' amp, only a 10W praccy amp) and the sheer variety of sounds is amazing. Some are useless to me, but there's definitely something in there for every style.

Is this the case Jemuniverse777? Does anybody else have any comments on this to balance out the issue?
Thanks

Re: Line 6 Tone Port
No latency issues with either tone ports. I helped a friend of mine setup his. He got the lower end model one which is fine for his needs. He has a laptop and no soundcard to really record into like I do so he got that and it works great. recording quality is good and the software is pretty extensive as far as what all it has like stompbox modeling, effects, amp and cab simulation, etc.
Plus line 6 is always adding new things and software updates for free these days. If I didn't use an Audigy and Adobe Audtion 2 to record, I'd have a toneport.
