Question

Line 6 users, can I pick your brains for some info?

Basically I've got the XT live and I've got some killer sounds out of it, the thing is, it's damn bulky for the space that I've got it in, so I'm thinking I may pick up a regular pod of some variety.

A couple of questions:

1. Can I transfer my saved sounds without buying any new packs (or anything like that)?

2. Which is the 'neatest' pod? (for example, not to bulky, doesn't require a massive floorboard to change banks, etc.)

Danke danke danke

Okay,

if your XT live came with any of the model packs - I think that some of them (or all of them) came with the FX Junkie one, then if your sounds that you have created use this then you will need to transport the sounds over to another pod (the XT or X3). This leads us to....

If you want to get another Pod then the only way to go is the 'red kidney bean' and due to compatability issues, you will need to get the Xt or the X3. Sonically they are the same, there is no improvment in sound modelling, but the X3 is far more flex-able and has a load more sounds...including ALL the model packs installed as well as vocal and bass pre amps to use!!

I think that if floor based control is a proirity for you then you may as well get the X3 and a floor board. Rest assured all of your XT live sounds will sound exactly the same when transferred.

So what your saying is that you can't transfer saved sounds if they use models from the purchased model packs. Is that right?

I am curious because I was thinking about getting a kidney-bean too. I have the XT Live, and I agree, it is bulky. It would be nice to have the smaller version for the bedroom.

On a side note, the JCM-800 model is by far my favorite amp model. I find myself using that one most of the time. What do you guys think of that model?

Great minds think a-like yet again, the JCM-800 model is the one that I'd really miss if it wasn't included.

Sorry to derail the thread, but has anyone tried the pocket pod?

As for which unit to get, I think Big Job nailed it, the Pod X3 is way better than the Xt. It has more of everything. Plus, the two amp model/signal chains at once is great for blending tones.

As for the JCM 800 model, it's in the X3, along with plenty of other new models that are very nice. I particularly liked the JMP-1 preamp model, the 5150 model, the Diezel VH4 model and the Engl Powerball model.

I hope you find exactly what you are after.

Rock on!

I might not have explianed myself too well....

If your sounds that you have created use ANY of the model packs (the FX Junkie, the Metal Shop and the Vintage one) then the devise that you are moving the sounds to will need the SAME model packs for the sounds to work.

If you dont have the model packs installed into the devise you moving your sounds to then the pod will suggest the closest thing that it can. For instance I moved some of the sounds from my Xt to my computer (running a tone port) and some of the reverbs are a little different, but very close.

As for amps....I use the 5150 emulation all the way! And for clean tones I use the Roland JC model with a little bit of chorus. I have not used the pocket pod because it is not capable of USB recording - as far as I'm aware. When I walk into the guitar shop and start talking about UBS interfaces they look at me like I'm an alien.

Also, I have to say again that if you run a POD through a valve power amp then you get some excellent tones. I didn't totally A/B the two together, but I was at home playing through my rig (XT to 20/20 power amp to 4 x 12) and I thought **** the real thing must be awesome! Much better than this! I went into the guitar shop to try a 5150, but they had a 6505 and I got to say the POD id really close indeed!

I'm more than happy to help if you have any other questions.
