Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

Have you not ever played guitar for so long that you just want to smash it.

I agree it is sad to see bands do that. I always felt they should just hand them out to people. That would be a more special gift. Iam surprised I haven't seen a band do that before !!

You play in front of people and the crowd goes nuts I imagine the feeling is like drugs, having had drugs before but not played in front of 50000 people... Sometimes your guitar is just not doing what you want it to do and you just smash it.

I can understand the guitarist getting fed up with his instrument, but the singer, I dont get at all.

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

Why is it Linkin Park fans get so butthurt when people criticise their favourite band? It's not the end of the world, there are plenty of other bands to like out of what you see on MTV y'know.

That's not why most people think Linkin Park sucks. It's because their sound is excessively polished and therefore sterile and their lyrics are just mawkish angst. That's just the start. I think plenty of people here who mainly like shred like some straight up stuff as well. I think you're just using a strawman.

Yep, tried damn hard, and failed.

I don't know why people place so much value on this. Of course it's advantageous to sound distinct, but when your 'own' sound is irritating beyond belief, you might as well have stuck with formulas that have proven not to piss people off.

Yeah, and plenty of people are getting fed up with it.

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

Im not a Link Park whatsoever, i am just the biggest fan of a little thing called tolerance .
If you think you have all the elements and knowledge to define an artist as good or bad...well, i guess you are god
If you don't like somekind of music, well dont listen to it and move on with your life, you don't have to attack everything that you don't like

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

For all who are interested, this is the footage in question:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmS1dtN_9F8

If you dont want to hear the song, just skip to the last 20 seconds or so To be fair, they smash that thing pretty good.

Also, you might remember that Yngwie smashes one of his strats on the G3 DVD and hands out the smashed pieces to the audience. A good compromise I think. Plus, that way more people get a little souvenir than if the guitar were in one piece!

you need to get a life dude. If you think that Linkin Park has failed to bring to the music industry a new style, then you're ABSOLUTELY WRONG. There is a big reason why they're so famous, and how they play for tens of thousands of people each week. There's no other band out there like them. They've got talent. Can you rap like Mike Shinoda? Can you scream like Chester? I think not. Stop flaming a band that is good when i've never seen you on TV at all. They can't be "sterile" and sell millions of copies of their CD's.

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

I actually like their new album (for the most part) A lot less wrap (or is that spelled "rap" ) and a lot more mellow. I must be getting old And some of those ~angst~ filled lyrics make a good point....and......... some do not

As far as spashing your gear, personally I don't care for it and it seems a copy of days gone by. But the crowd loves it and if you can afford it and get into it, then good for you!

It's certianly not going to ruin my day

But I can guarantee you, you wouldn't see him smashin up his favorite guitar! They buy cheapies to destroy

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

well, he's endorsed by ibanez, so yeah, i guess he can afford it. plus, the RG he used had the perfect tone for the song and was cheap.....

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

It's just part of the cost of a show for them, just a stage prop like ripping off a t-shirt. The cost of a low end RG, especially if they are buying them in quantity, and assuming they have to pay for them, is probably less than is spent on food and alcohol for the band backstage. Sure, it's been done to death and very tired now, but don't worry, Ibanez isn't going to run out of low end RGs any time soon.

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

Writing disposable garbage isnt really refreshing. A friend of mine was telling me that when he was working in a studio he was talking to a producer who had alot of fun things to say about Linkin Park. One of the things he said was that originally they called themselves Hybrid Theory, but the record company changed the name to Linkin Park to be next to Limp Bizkit in the CD bins and try to piggy back of their (at the time) success.
Either way, they arent going to do anything that lasts so let them enjoy their 15 minutes.

Original and refreshing... Hey, let's smash a guitar and be original just like Jimi Hendrix, Pete Townsend, the dead guy from Nirvana, and all the rest of those guys.

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

sorry to inform you, but there is NOTHING original in rock guitar short of biting the head off a bat ---wait a second, that's been done before. S$#t!

Who cares if they want to break their own guitars. When you have the funds to buy something, that makes it yours to do what ever you want with. Maybe if you're lucky enough to get a record deal and have enough people enjoy your creation then you can do the same.

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

I really hate Linkin Park, so I'm biased, but I'd say that Brad Delson/the other guy treats his gear badly just by playing it/attempting to. I really can't stand people that say 'guitar solos are hogwash', just because they obviously can't do it themselves. I wouldn't have so much of a, if any, problem with him if he didn't say/hadn't said that.
