No, the fact that they use cliched riffs and song structures, and offer nothing new musically means they suck. They're just another band that a record company designed to appeal to the mass of idiots who think they're rebellious because they listen to a band where the lead singer has *GASP* piercings.

I tolerate Linkin Park and other similar bands in the sense that I allow them to exist. That's as tolerant as I get.
I'm not open minded, I'm not un-biased, and I'm not impartial. As a general rule; if you disagree with me, I think you're wrong and probably stupid. This is one of those times.

Well. Yngwie basically just copies, more or less verbatim, what Ritchie Blackmore did twenty, heck, maybe thirty years ago, but faster and with much less feel - that, like everything else he does, was something Blackmore used to do in Deep Purple.

Yawn.

Yawn.
Malmsteen has more "feel" than most guitarists. The emotion is just a property of the entirety of the work, as opposed to merely the articulation of the guitar. Listen to Amadeus Quattro Valvole.

I'd rather not all the same, but thanks anyway - he bores me absolutely senseless.

And I know it's all in the ears of the listener, but I just can't detect a shred of emotion. Lots of shred mind you.

And he's STILL just copying Ritchie Blackmore - right down the neo-classical pretentions! Ritchie is now into it so far that he plays Baroque music on a lute, wears a D'Artagnan hat with feather and pointy boots - expect to see Malmsteen following in five to ten years........

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

sure, Malmsteen's got plenty of feel..
he feels himself. he feels the world revolves around him. he feels he is the greatest guitarist to have ever lived. he knows nobody else is as worthy of feeling as he, so he feels himself again. he feels his guitar. he feels like he puts feeling into it, though he doesn't because with all the feeling he puts into himself there is none left for the puny little guitar..

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

I'm under no obligation not to 'attack' a band, I'm not trying to stop them from making music, I'm just expressing my opinion like anyone else can. My observations about Linkin Park fans getting so indignant at other people's opinions are proven once again.

There is a big reason why they're so famous, and how they play for tens of thousands of people each week. There's no other band out there like them. They've got talent. Can you rap like Mike Shinoda? Can you scream like Chester? I think not. Stop flaming a band that is good when i've never seen you on TV at all. They can't be "sterile" and sell millions of copies of their CD's.
I did say, even if they have created a new style, it doesn't really go anywhere IMO.

The whole "they must be good because they sell loads" argument is pretty bankrupt. I take it by that virtue you like all chart-topping music? If you actually looked at things you'd realise a band's music alone isn't what shifts records. You have to look at the entire presentation. Would they sell as much if they were fat, acne-scarred guys in string vests, or if they sung about aircraft construction?

No I can't rap like Mike Shinoda, and I don't wish to. I don't like rap. And as that YouTube I linked to demonstrates, his lexicon is somewhat limited (rapping about the pain inside, y'all). Unlike say, this guy.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-UAPW1srwOU

And screaming like Chester is not hard, but is that the best screaming you've heard? What other bands with screaming have you heard?

It's pretty stupid to say that only people of matching or greater talent can criticise a band. I take it you think every journalist who reviews an album in a magazine or newspaper has no right to critique any music that they themselves could not create? And that it's wrong for anybody with no presidential experience to criticise the policies of the president (or head of state)? Of course this isn't politics but it serves to point out the absurdity in such an argument.

In short though, accept people have differing opinions on your favourite band, or stop talking about them. I'm not stopping you from liking them, 'dude'.

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

let me tell you this. When I first heard them, i didn't know there name or who they were, and i was like, HOLY CRAP this is some good stuff, this is the music i've always wanted (i'm big into rap, hip hop and hard rock). Then i foudn out they were famous. I didn't like them cuz they were famous, i liked their music. If you don't like them, that's fine with me. And i don't like all chart yoping records. I HATE GREENDAY!!! and they were chart topping.... and i couldn't care what the guys look like, only if they can make good music. Sure, i'm not gonna see them in concert if they look terrible, but listen to them? Sure, it's music, not a DVD.

glad we have differences, otherwise the world would be boring. lets drop this crap now.
thanks dude

Re: Linkin Park's Treatment towards their gear

I've never paid any attention to Linkin Park, since their guitars don't appear to be yellow enough. So I went for a mozy around YouTube, trying to see what all the fuss is about. Came across this: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=A5sx7OFPGOY

Why do they all look like the little elvish Kokiri people out of Zelda who've got a day job as a bank teller?

I'm sorry but proper rock stars should scare your mom. Like these people would do. ...Not look like they need a pat on the head and some change for some candy.

Lyrical content analysis......

*sung softly*

just like before.....

*now screaming like a madman*

I'm one step closer to the edge and I'm about to break......

Meaning:

I haven't really lived a bad or rough life, I've just chosen to not deal with the realities of life because it's like..... too much work man.

No worries man. I hate them too. But rather, I think they were great until they encouraged kids to jump on the ****-Bush bandwagon instead of teaching them to think for themselves about these issues.
