Lo Pro Edge vs Edge - differnece between these trems
I am soon going to be purchasing a Lo
Pro Edge
or
Edge trem
. I am leaning towards the Lo Pro but recently I found a good deal on a used Edge.
Is it worth it for a good price? Does the Edge perform identical to the Lo Pro?
Are there any differences between the 2?
Lo Pro has easier intonation adjustment I heard.
Is the only way to adjust to intonation with the special adjustment tool?

Lo Pro Edge vs Edge
While I'm not going to really address your questions, I just thought I'd post with (what I believe to be) the dissenting opinion.
I prefer the Edge trem to the Lo Pro. *I won't buy a guitar with a Lo Pro actually. *I have found a few people who share my sentiment but I think most do not. *In fact, this is one of the reasons I don't own a 7 string. *I cannot purchase a mahogany bodied 7 with an original Edge 7 and tracking that trem down aftermarket...

Lo Pro Edge vs Edge
Oh wow you prefer the Edge? I thought the Lo Pro was nothing but improvements over the Edge! I've played both but the only Lo Pros I have played were 7 strings. What is it exactly about the Edge that makes it more preferable to you? Does it perform differently or fit differently to the guitar? I have a chance to buy a used one but i'm still leaning towards the Lo Pro.
Thanks for your reply.
At this point anything would beat this crap Lo TRS II. I always thought it was a decent trem and could be a bit better but after I played some Edge and Lo Pros I can't settle for TRS anymore. Jem 555's get bashed way too much and mainly for their TRS. I'm getting a high quality trem in it. Then it's pretty much complete. Great neck, body, pickups, trem, EVERYTHING! The rosewood sounds so beautiful clean and
Steve Vai
changes some of his 7V necks with 555 necks. Shows that this guitar truely isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

Lo Pro Edge vs Edge
I got rid of the Lo-Pro off my 7VWH a few months ago and traded it for an original Edge (Thanks Jimm!).
I strongly prefer the feeling of the
Edge trems
over the Lo-Pro's. They flutter a lot easier, I've noticed a HUGE tension change once I switched. I'm not saying I'll never play a Lo-Pro, but if I had a choice, I'd take the Edge.
The Lo-Pro may be a bit more comfortable to anyone who rests their hands on the trems while picking, but mine sits more on the humbucker than on the bridge. (Ask Jimm, the Lo-Pro he got was nearly flawless after 4 years of use). The Lo-Pro is definitely easier to change strings with, as the string block locks are on the top part of the bridge, opposed to underneath the fine tuners. I find it worth the added 'hassle' of changing strings.
I won't buy a guitar just because it has a Lo-Pro, they are the up-grades, I just prefer the feel of the Edge.

Lo Pro Edge vs Edge
If you're planning to change the TRS with an Edge or a Lo Pro it probably won't fit into the body without routing it...
I don't really care if it is an Edge or a Lo Pro, IMHO the difference isn't that big...but the intonation is easier to adjust in the Lo Pro, with the proper tool of course, which is not available trough Ibanez anymore...but you can get it from
http://www.stewmac.com
and sometimes with the Edge, when the fine tuners are all the way up the whammy bar may get stuck on them...

Lo Pro Edge vs Edge
Quite a few people on the forum like the original Edge. I believe Glen is one of them. The reasons cited are usually because they flutter better, feel smoother, or allow more pull up. Not everyone agrees that these points are true.
I prefer the Lo Pro because I don't notice that much of a difference in flutter, feel, and pull up and because I like the fact that the Lo Pro doesn't stick out and get in the way of my picking hand as much.
Setting intonation on an Edge isn't much more difficult, so I wouldn't let it sway you that much. The other factors are more important.

Lo Pro Edge vs Edge
I'm also an Edge, lover, above all 'reasons' is that I'm probably just most comfortable with it. All my 'players' are Edge equipped so the Lo Pro feels just a little odd to me. Your milage will definately vary. Either way, they're both the best you can use.

Lo Pro Edge vs Edge
Wow you've all been so helpful. That's a lot of info. I know the body would have to be routed to fit the trem. I don't have a prob with that. So the Edge actualyl flutters better? when you say this, do you mean when you pull or push the bar one way and release it, the trem vibrates. Is more better? How can you pull the Edge up more? Wouldn't the strings judge how much you can pull them up before they break?
Which trem feels more sensitive when you push or pull it?
I still am very unsure which I would go for.
What's IMHO?
What's YTSE?
Thanks again guys.

Lo Pro Edge vs Edge
TRS/Edge transplants have been discussed before. Routing MAY be needed, but some have said they fit right in....that may be because of the korean factor.
One point that is always missed are the trem posts on the TRS equiped guitars.
You can not thread an Edge trem post into a TRS anchor. Won't fit...I've tried. And you'll need the Edge trem post for the ummmmmm...Edge trem for it to function at all. So...you'll need to pull the TRS anchors and get a set of Edge anchors and posts to put in.
One more catch...the TRS anchors are wider in diameter, so....you'll have to fill the hole, re-drill for the new Edge anchor and install.....hope you get the allignment right.

Given two trems of like condition (edge and lopro) I'd pay as much or more for the Edge personally.

It holds it's tune and intonation exactly as the LoPro does. Same range - possible body routing differences aside.
Quote:

Yup. Many of us prefer the Edge
It has better flutter, might have a better balance & feel, although that is subjective. *That said, some find the LoPro more comfortable on the wrist hand when you
palm mute
, etc. since it's fine tuners are further removed from the bridge.
The replies above point this out.

The Edgeadjust3 tool fits easier but who cares? Both varieties are a hassle compared to a
fixed bridge
and you don't intonate often anyways.

Nope, but it saves alot of time, frustration and saddle set screws from stripping. Good luck... glen
PS - IMHO = in my humble opinion

About the trem posts when swapping TRS to Edge...
It is true that the Edge\Lo Pro trem posts won't fit in the TRS mounts. However, you can just use the Edge/Lo Pro with the TRS posts. I did this with a TRS to Lo Pro 7 swap. No routing in this case either.

Lo Pro Edge vs Edge
I like the fact that the lo-pro and Edge are different feeling bridges. As many of the guys have said the original Edge seems to be better at fluttering and reducing
string tension
and general whammy techniques, but I find the Lo-pro makes a better "fixed" bridge, sort of like it takes more bending on one string to put the others slightly flat, and it doesn't wobble so much when you rest on it. My main player has an Edge, but my more refined guitars the ones I don't throwaround have the lo-pro.

Lo Pro Edge vs Edge
I have found that in a shallow rear routing, the original Edge has more travel than the lo-pro. I route my trems slightly more shallow than Ibanez because my guitars are thinner. Plus, the rear
spring cavity
can be constructed shorter for the orig Edge. While I find both identical in feel, there are some mechanical differences that can make one better in certain instances.
