With a good nut (like a GraphTech), i think locking tuners are pretty great. I have Gotoh Magnum Locks on my 442R and Sperzels on my Parker, and they're both pretty stable. I like that i can change tunings quickly. Stringing up is pretty quick, too, because you don't have to wind, wind, wind and make sure your windings line up properly. (I used to do one wrap above the hole and 2-3 wraps below.) Just insert the string, pull it taut, lock, clip, tune, stretch, tune and you're done.
Why don't all giutars come with them? Some people like vintage tuners for their tone. Other people think they're more of a hassle. Others are just resistant to change.
