Locking Tuners?

Of these brands, is one better than the other and why? Grover, Sperzel and Planet Waves. Looking to put some on two Gibsons. Thanks

Re: Locking Tuners?

I second Sperzels, i've tried all of the above brands in various configurations and Sperzels have always come out on top for me.

I didn't like the auto trim Planet waves. They didn't always catch the thinner strings and geez are we so lazy we can't use a pair of snips?

Re: Locking Tuners?

I have to say I disagree. Planet Waves are AWESOME. They have a lifetime warranty and the string cutter works everytime providing you put the string in the right way and pull the excess string (this helps cutting as you're increasing the tension- giving a cleaner cut) ! Why not have it cut the excess string for you? It gets it closer than I ever did, and they look awesome too. I have them on ALL my guitars (even the ones with locking nuts- and I think it's perfectly justified as
A) It helps MASSIVELY with string slippage- I don't like the idea of string slippage behind the nut when it's locked,
B) I use D'addario strings and don't want a mini rainbow at the end of my headstock from the ball end at the machine head trick)
Go for PW dude, you won't regret it.

+1 for Sperzels. My strat wouldn't be the same without them.

Re: Locking Tuners?

Sperzels and planet waves are awesome.

But the look of the sperzels on my jp6 and my peavey s1 are sleek and sexy.

On a gibson, either model should work well though.
